The park is a magical place. You run into people walking dogs, riding bikes, skating, and perhaps just sitting and watching the view. It is a wonderful place that is there for everyone to enjoy. We loved riding our bikes around the whole park and stopping to see the wildlife. We have also enjoyed it on the water in kayaks.... More

There is a literal warren of dirt trails running through this Back Bay unimproved regional park. There are numerous species of birds on view including hawks and vultures. Some horses and bicycles use the trails, but it is so extensive that there are lots of routes that feel secluded.

I really enjoy running in this area. Lots of room on the trail and you really feel like you get away from the crazy traffic and cars in the area. Birds galore in this area and you never know what you will see next. Love it when I see the Turkey Vultures.

We took my five year old there and he had a blast. Lots of things to see and do in the center and beautiful trails to walk around outside. We saw jack rabbits, ground squirrels, and even a kingfisher!

There are dirt trails for hiking that are not overly strenuous. Regretfully, although they are not suppose to, bicyclists use the dirt trails and can be a real danger as they zoom by you - don't get me wrong I like to bike but they shouldn't allow them in here at all. Also, all the horse droppings are a bit... More

The upper bay offers beautiful views of the bay, the surrounding neighborhood and the fresh air infused with the sages, and wild California native plants that line up and fill the park. Cool place to bring your binoculars and spot birds and other creatures. I saw a 4-5 foot long red, black and white snake, a green snake and some... More

I walked the upper the day after flying in from the east coast. It was a short stroll out the back gate of the Hyatt. Birds spotted were: red shouldered hawk, red-tailed hawk, northern harrier, turkey vulture, cormorant, great blue heron, great egret, snowy egret, northern mockingbird, spotted towhee, California towhee*, Belding's Savannah Sparrow*, house finch, barn swallow, Allen's hummingbird,... Whether you walk, jog, run, bike, or ride a horse, the Back Bay is a perfect place to do it. We stayed a the hotel near by and every morning headed onto the trails for exercise. On the Saturday morning we paused to listen to volunteer naturalists speaking at their stations along the trail, on the history, geology, fish life,... More

Parallel park on University Drive and cross the street and enter the park on foot through the employee driveway near the end of University. Cross over the bike path and be sure to grab bags for Fido if needed and head into the park from the employee driveway which is the rear entrance to the Interpretive Center. Keep walking and...
