Description: Donald Hess established his first Mount Veeder vineyard in 1978, from the...
Donald Hess established his first Mount Veeder vineyard in 1978, from the beginning recognizing that on these ridges and benchlands, the potential for great winegrowing was clear. Deep, rocky, volcanic soils provide a home for vineyard blocks producing small, concentrated fruit that reflects the challenges of growing grapes at higher altitudes in the coolest mountain growing region in Napa. The Hess Collection winery is part of a historic site where wine was first produced in the 1860’s, in a native stone build hewn by masons in 1903. The original stone structure is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art that captures “two passions under one roof.” The Hess Collection uses sustainable, environmentally-sound practices with the axiom, “Nurture the land, and return what you take.” That philosophy brings with it a dedication to delivering wines that speak to their natural origins. Wine tasting & tours daily. Culinary experiences include pairings with small plates, artisan cheese and chocolates.

Enjoy the Drive and the Grounds

Loved this place. Modern art gets everyone involved. The wine was good and so were the grounds. I want to go back soon.

We called ahead and were told it was "reservation only", so we made one, but when we arrived, everyone else seemed to be making reservations on the spot. The scenery was beautiful and the art impressive, but the tasting service was very rushed with no information on the wines, history of the winery, or even attempts to encourage us to... More

Mt. Veeder is the location of this winery and the drive up the winding road and vista at the top are exquisite. The backstory of the original owner, the feat of building the stone building with these enormous redwood beams and private art collection housed here make this more than just your usual tasting experience. Yes, the wines are well... More

This winery is known also for it's art collection. Though the art is too modern for my taste it added a nice element to the visit. The drive to the vineyard and the grounds are spectacular. The wine was good though there were other vineyards whose wine was more our taste. However, it was definitely a worthwhile visit.

Went on the VIP tour being the scenes of the winery. Our guide Jan was extrebtky knowledge about both the wine and the art. The hidden secrrt at Hess is the small block Pinot noir and Cabernet. Need to try them if possible. The art is unusual just as most art is. Worth an hour out if your day

The art is worth the drive! Three floors of superb paintings, sculptures, installations in a stunning space. Art is sprinkled around the grounds, along staircases, anywhere there is space. I called the day before to make a reservation for the 11:30 tour, but, when I arrived, I was told there was no tour at 11:30! That's the only reason for... More

This isn't my favorite winery around the Napa valley. It's a wonderful visit. The art is very interesting. I find Hess wines a bit overpriced but palatable. I would say go for the art and atmosphere rather than the wine. It's a nice experience with nice people.

Me and my family took a weekend trip up to Napa to see a concert. After the concert my parents wanted to go tour some wineries. But because I am under age I couldn't get into any wineries. We were recommended that we try the Hess Winery. This place was great. They not only aloud me to tour the winery... More

An incredible art and winery tour. Our host Larry and Hess winery could not have been better. The art is an outstanding private collection of modern art shared with the public. Larry was informative as to the art as well as with the wine and its pairing with foods. Kudos for and thanks to Larry. A highlight of a napa... More

The platter and chocolate truffle are orgasmic. I asked for gluten free crackers instead of the biscuit and oh my they were the best gf crackers I have had in my life. They had dried strawberries on the platter as well and I must say dried strawberries are taste better dried than raw. * There is no fee if you... More
