Deep, rocky, volcanic soils provide a home for vineyard blocks producing small, concentrated fruit that reflects the challenges of growing grapes at higher altitudes in the coolest mountain growing region in Napa. The Hess Collection winery is part of a historic site where wine was first produced in the 1860’s, in a native stone build hewn by masons in 1903. The original stone structure is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art that captures “two passions under one roof.” The Hess Collection uses sustainable, environmentally-sound practices with the axiom, “Nurture the land, and return what you take.” That philosophy brings with it a dedication to delivering wines that speak to their natural origins. Wine tasting & tours daily. Culinary experiences include pairings with small plates, artisan cheese and chocolates. « less

Hess Winery was next to the monastery. Old building now leased to the Hess Winery. There is an Art Museum next to the old building that stores wine barrels. Our tasting was in the wine barrel room. The wines were decent, but not to our liking. NIce grounds. The art was interesting. The film reel where you look into a... More

Hess is a great place to visit to see a beautiful winery, taste some great wines, and experience a very unique art collection. Our wine tasting guide, Erin, was wonderful - she made the experience and had so much information to share. There are some very unique and tasty wines available. The gift shop has some really nice pieces as... More

Go before the last tour at 3:30, we missed it, but enjoyed guiding ourselves through the first and second floor. The third floor was closed for a private event for the Napa Film Festival, so we have reasons to return. The art will not be everyone's cup of tea but I did enjoy several peices including a live flaming typewriter?

We visited The Hess Collection on a lovely fine day... the drive there is also worthwhile ! We used Trip Advisor to find this as we had a gap in our day. The collection itself is free to view...which is a bonus... and WELL DONE to the owners for that !. Modern art is one of those things... you either... More

This is a beautiful winery in the hills of Napa. We were with a group tour, so we had a guide assigned us who began by providing us a nice crisp white wine and then walking us around the property giving us the history of the winery. We then stopped at a table outside for tastings of more wines. We... More

We booked a guided wine tour because we didn't want to deal with driving. This was one of my least favorite wineries we visited. I love the winery itself, its really cute but I personally didn't care for the art collection or the wine. It was 100 degrees in Napa that day and it was our third winery, so that... More

We had no plans to visit this winery until a staff member at our B&B recommended it. The winery is located just outside Napa along a scenic drive in the hills. The staff were great and really made our tasting fun! My wife fell in love with the Orange Muscat and bought 3 bottles! There is no need to make... More

The art collection here is a world class collection which is superbly curated and the owner has a clear idea of what his collection is trying to say. The wines not bad too

He has pretty much grown up with the Hess family and If I were looking to open a winery Id do everything in my power to steal him away as he knows his wine making and has amazing passion... More

A convenient five mile drive up from downtown Napa.Take a short, outdoor, historical, complimentary tour with a docent; no need for walking shoes. The gardens, fountains, fish, grounds, outdoor sculptures are all complimentary. Inside, the impressive, mostly modern, art encompasses three floors (yes, an elevator.). Also, complimentary. Several price points for wine tasting with friendly, knowledgeable tenders. The minimum is... More
