Owner description: Donald Hess established his first Mount Veeder vineyard in 1978, from the beginning recognizing that on these ridges and benchlands, the potential for great winegrowing was clear. Deep, rocky, volcanic soils provide a home for vineyard blocks producing small, concentrated fruit that reflects the challenges of growing grapes at higher altitudes in the coolest mountain growing region in Napa. The Hess Collection winery is part of a historic site where wine was first produced in the 1860’s, in a native stone build hewn by masons in 1903. The original stone structure is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art that captures “two passions under one roof.” The Hess Collection uses sustainable, environmentally-sound practices with the axiom, “Nurture the land, and return what you take.” That philosophy brings with it a dedication to delivering wines that speak to their natural origins. Wine tasting & tours daily. Culinary experiences include pairings with small plates, artisan cheese and chocolates.

Anne & I have enjoyed Hess Collection wines for years so we thought it was about time to visit the winery itself. What a beautiful setting & relaxing visit seemingly far away from the groups of wineries along Highway 29. The grounds alone were worth the visit. It was also nice to fine somewhat affordable Napa Cabernet. We'll be back!

We came for the tatsting, we stayed for the tour. Michael gave us a tour of the property situated high in the hills in the most serene and varied landscape. The family tradition and the story behind the winery are beautiful. The connection and energy of the staff are palpable. If you like modern art you will enjoy the collection.... More

Went on a Tuesday which gave us a VIP experience since they weren't busy. The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The wine tasting went well. To know they make Malbec was very interesting. The art gallery there is good. The drive up to this although seemed lengthy it was nice.

I loved visiting this place. The art wherever you look in & around the building is impressive. Their wines both from California and from Argentina are excellent. We had the chance to have lunch in the premises and the food was unforgettable! Everybody is really friendly and helpful, able to answer allyour questions. You can't miss it if you are... More

If you're a non-wine drinker like myself, yet love the winery experience, Hess is a fantastic destination as they have one of the finest art collections in all of Napa Valley!

the view form the top of the winery was breathtaking, a real treat! unfortunately, the tram was out of commission the day we were there, but definitely still worth the visit. The tastings were delish, and the winery self guided tour was easy and informative.

If it is not for the wine, you should visit to view their art exhibition. Wonderful place, out of the usual path with a scenic view to get there. Excellent wine.

I visited the Hess Collection during my first visit to Napa Valley. I decided to drive on my own and did some research to include some fine options. The Hess is worth a visit, with an European spirit since the entrance, where I recalled memories of much older winery that I visited in Italy and France some years ago. The... More

The experience was incredible. My first time in this type of attraction and I want to come back. The combination of history and wine in this location is amazing. I don't know anything about wine and now I'm planning taking class. Must see attraction. Take the bite and wine tasting!!

I spent a few hours here with my wife and kids, seeing the museum and (with my wife) tasting the wines. The art was too eclectic and modern for my taste, but the museum and tour were lovely. The guide gave our group a lot of information and the tasting itself was well-organized.
