Donald Hess established his first Mount Veeder vineyard in 1978, from the beginning recognizing that on these ridges and benchlands, the potential for great winegrowing was clear. Deep, rocky, volcanic soils provide a home for vineyard blocks producing small, concentrated fruit that reflects the challenges of growing grapes at higher altitudes in the coolest mountain growing region in Napa. The Hess Collection winery is part of a historic site where wine was first produced in the 1860’s, in a native stone build hewn by masons in 1903. The original stone structure is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art that captures “two passions under one roof.” The Hess Collection uses sustainable, environmentally-sound practices with the axiom, “Nurture the land, and return what you take.” That philosophy brings with it a dedication to delivering wines that speak to their natural origins. Wine tasting & tours daily. Culinary experiences include pairings with small plates, artisan cheese and chocolates.

Art exhibit is worth the visit. There are many wines produced that you do not see in retail. Their club members must get many of the small production wines. My visit was pleasant but rather cold in nature. Good winery but not very cordial. Worth a visit for the art.

I love their orange Muscat! It's not too sweet and is so light, you could drink an entire bottle if you're not careful. Although the winery is a drive up Mt. Veeder, it's a beautiful location. If you like modern art, check out their art collection. Their garden is so romantic in the summer. My husband loves their Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine tasting hidden inside a beautiful art gallery. We didn't do a wine tasting, only toured the gallery, which was free of charge. A must-see for those interested in modern art! Very friendly staff willing to answer any questions you may have.

This is the top end of a winery excursion. Show them your ID for a potential comp if your a local resident. Travel a scenic road west of Napa and wander up the path to their entrance. Interesting art begins here. Others will be able to explain all the interesting works you will visit and help you enjoy the wine... More

Fantastic wines, beautiful art pieces and a staff who truly cares. Ask for Carlos, he was everything a guide should be and shared unique history. We loved the wines and as we walked out a wine club member shared how much they love Hess as well.

The people here are nice and open to questions. The winery is like a museum and worth the visit. The drive up the mountain to get there is scenic. They have a large assortment of wines for every taste. This was another stop set up by my son.

The wine was excellent. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about wine. If your looking for bizarre art you can find it here. One of the themes was decapitated heads and dismemberment. An opposing theme was beautiful portraits. All in all it made a provocative journey into abstract art.
