This was my first time in the Napa area and my boyfriend and I only had a day to spend there so we picked up a wine guide that showed a map of the area and wineries and started driving. I looked online briefly for a winery that had both a tour and tastings. This one showed up so I... more

Although the Hess Collection is a bit "out of the way" as some people put it, the drive is actually a nice way to see a more wooded, hillly side of Napa compared to the valley. The building and grounds are very nice, and the art collection inside is nothing short of fantastic. They have a better collection than many... more

We enjoyed our stop at the Hess Collection. The grounds are very nice and peaceful, though there really is no where to walk around. It is basically the parking lot and sidewalk leading to the building. There is a barrel room that you can view (and smell!). There is also an art gallery. There was some interesting pieces and worth... more

So it's a little off the beaten path to get there... GO!! It's worth it. The tasting room isn't too big...it's intimate enough with great ambience. They are personable and casual. There is an art gallery, small but good gift shop, neat grounds and the most amazing barrel room. You just walk in and the aroma takes your breath away!... more

This is by far my favorite Napa winery. The remote drive is absolutely beautiful. Once on the grounds, you will not be disappointed. Art is tucked away in every corner. We were lucky to arrive on a Sunday that the Cellar Door wine was available. We were able to sample wine straight from the barrel. It was fabulous. Next we... more

We pulled in the empty parking lot right when Hess opened Christmas Eve morning, and had the serene place to ourselves for a wonderful 45 minutes of browsing the garden area, the gift shop and the art collection - not to mention admiring their huge and gorgeous Christmas tree. The art was all contemporary, something my wife and I typically... more

Off the beaten path, beautiful garden, cool art collection and there are coupons out there for free tastings so ask around. Definitely would visit again if nothing else to see the garden and art. more

Yes, this winery is somewhat out of the way but well worth the trip. It has a great art gallery, fun tourist shop and one of the best wine tastings. It is now one of our favorite winerys, wonderful chardonnay and some great reds. This property was an original Christian Brothers building/property as well as Greystone, the C.I.A. (Culinary Instuitute... more

I just came back from a 4th of July weekend in San Fran mind you...it's COLD! I got off the plane expecting "sunny California" only to find frigid temps. We set aside one full day to Napa and a friend of ours had requested that we send him a case of the Hess Collection reserve cabernet '98 and well...it was... more
