We have been "Going Wine Tasting" in Napa/Sonoma since the '80's...Good friends gave us a gift certificate for the Wine Train luncheon and we loved it. Having seen the train amble by - lo these many years - we were curious and pleased. No, it is not haute cuisine. Enjoy the experience.

One of our favorite experiences in Napa. The food was comparable to a 5-star restaurant and the views were perfect. I would highly recommend upgrading to the dome car for added privacy and luxury, but everyone is welcome to tour the entire train. Can also be coupled with wine tastings that disembark some passengers and pick them up on the... More

We booked the wine train for lunch on a Monday,as a special experience for our trip to the Napa Valley. We had visited several wineries in the days prior to our train trip, so we were able to just sit back and enjoy the ride. We had booked the gourmet car and did the trip with friends who had lived... My Husband and I booked the Vista Dome for our trip on the wine train. What a fabulous day. On arrival we were shown to our table with a glass of Champagne. Our server was very informative and made sure we had everything we needed. She explained about the wines and recommended wines to our taste. As we set off... More

We booked the Champagne Dome Lunch Tour on a Tuesday. The staff are lovely and super-attentive,the food is good (but not exceptional) but overall the whole experience is incredibly over-rated and not remotely worth the money. If you're 50 years old or younger, I'd strongly recommend against. You'll need to dedicate a whole day from SF ( our ferry left... More

Seeking a unique experience, we booked lunch on the train. The train is beautiful. The service in the dining car was great. Lunch was fantastic! And then you need to entertain yourself...no getting off anywhere, no commentary, not much to see (the tracks are beside the highway so we had driven it several times in a few days)...just ride. My... More

This train is pleasant but it really does not reveal much country that you would not see by simply driving along the road which it parallels. We had a nice lunch and enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, but neither were outstanding. The staff were attentive and responsive. A nice experience, but I would spend the money differently next time.

My wife and I expected a relaxing journey, beautiful scenery and wine tasting. We didn’t get any. A noisy group “entertained” throughout: singing loudly, yelling profanities and repeatedly blocking our view. One gentleman shared his buttocks: one of the edge of a chair, the other on my wife’s shoulder. Despite repeated requests to move, the one-half buttock found its way... More

We booked the gourmet lunch experience with a tour of the Grgch Hills Estate which was wonderful. We had booked lunch with 2 glasses of wine. One with our lunch on the outward journey and the other with dessert on our return journey, while watching the incredible views enroute. The lunch was excellent. I would say fine dining at its...
