This trail goes from Pacific Grove to Castroville with 95% of the route on bike paths where there is no motor vehicle traffic. It is best for bicycling between The area by the Defense Language Institute in Monterey and the town of Marina. Around the harbor area there are lots of pedestrians and child strollers that block the path. Lots... More

Great biking/walking trail accessible to all. Check out the views and the tide pools. You won't want to stop.

I have been hit on the Rec Trail by crazy zooming bicyclist. Put me in physical therapy for months on end. I love the Rec Trail, but Monterey really needs to have separate lanes for walkers and bikers, as it is very unsafe.

This is a great way to see the Monterey peninsula. The paved path skirts the ocean with stop offs at the wharf, acquarium, cannery row, etc. We walked, but others cycled, skated, jogged, etc.

This is a beautifully designed and well-maintained path for walking and biking. It is wide enough that walkers and cyclists do not interfere with one another, and it stays well away from traffic. Most importantly, it winds along one of the most breathtaking coasts in the world! There is easy access from bike rental shops as well. Consider bringing a... More

In July I spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon biking this trail. I loved it so much, I was constantly snapping photos, the views are so breathtaking. When you get past the beach area it's none too crowded either. I spent four hours going up and down the trail, from Lovers Park to Fort Ord Dunes Park. I'd do it again... More

This trail takes you along and around the Bay. It starts/ends in Pacific Grove and winds all the way to Marina, CA. I have walked from PG to Monterey many times, stopping to enjoy the different tide pools, the 'sights' of the Bay, sometimes otters, and vegetation. And I've biked it many times. It's an easy ride or walk for... More

Must go place event if you have to cut out visiting the Monterey Aquarium. You can find free parking along the trail on the road. Best way is to walk, jog or bike on it. From there, you can get in 17 mile drive on foot or bike without paying the entry fee. I've been there for at least half... More

This is a great biking/hiking area and highly recommend if the weather is good. Otherwise you can drive and stop at areas of interest.
