From abalone to rockfish, everything was fished and the Monterey Bay was a multi-cultural stew. This entertaining tour led by noted fisheries historian and author, Tim Thomas, will take you back in time to explore the history of the fisheries of Monterey Bay and the people who made it Monterey famous. « less

I think Tim Thomas is the Professor of Monterey, CA Cannery Row History. I have been to Monterey before and only knew the city as a place to eat seafood. Now I know more of the character and charm of Monterey and Cannery Row. Excellent performance by Tim, he kept the history alive and interesting. I would recommend this tour... More

This is a great place to people watch. From young to old, the regulars and the tourist. Don't expect this to be like San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, it is much smaller and void of much shopping. Ate at a really good restaurant called Fishermen's Grotto. Food was really good and as seat by the window offered good views. Make sure... More

I had to search through tripadvisor to find this, but it was worth the effort. Nothing but the best gets 63 excellent grades and one very good unless it is the real thing. My wife, daughter, son-in-law and I met with Tim after a great Sunday brunch at El Torito to start our week stay in Pacific Grove. We could... More

I'd visited the Monterey Aquarium before but tended to regard Cannery Row as a place with ticky- tacky tourist shops. However taking the tour with Tim made all the difference --he shared amazing stories with us about the real cannery row, the people who had worked there through time, the history with Doc Ricketts and some of the other people... My husband and I found this tour on a random groupon hunt. We were in Monterey for a couple of days and wanted to try something other than the aquarium (which we love and did still go to). I am so glad I ran across this! Our guide is a local and full of interesting knowledge about the whole area.... More

Tim Thomas provided us an excellent tour with insight into the ins and outs of Cannery Row. He was extremely knowledgable of the town of Monterey. I learned so much about this wonderful town from him. He also has lots of props and pictures that add to the experience. What a wonderful tour and wonderful man. Highly recommend!

Visiting from Dallas and contacted Tim late on a Sunday night. Our plane was leaving at 1pm on Monday, so Tim agreed to meet us at 8:30am and gave us a personal 2 hour tour. He is very accommodating, entertaining, passionate, and knowledgeable about everything Cannery Row. We loved every minute spent with this informative "local" historian.
