We almost decided to skip Monterey on this trip, late July, Saturday crowds, who needs that when we could have just headed to Auburn and the gold country to visit family. The we read the other reviews of this walking tour and decided to sign up. We were the only ones along and despite the crowded sidewalks we thoroughly enjoyed... More

Tim is a local historian and author who has been giving these tours for some time. With his big bag of interesting photos and assorted props, he makes the subject come alive for a small group. My wife and I have taken two of his walking tours, one from Fisherman's wharf on the general history of the waterfront area, the... More

We often book walking tours when traveling, but they are NOT all the same. Tim's tour of Cannery Row is the best use of your time if visiting Monterey if you want to know what life was really like there in the early days. Obviously he has an amazing knowledge of the history, having personally interviewed many in Monterey AND... More

Tim gave a great walking tour of Cannery Row, with a lot of the history of the area. He related landmarks to Steinbeck's novel and explained the ups and downs of the Row. Back alleys and inside canneries, we really enjoyed it!

My wife and I (And another couple) went on a walking tour with Tim on March 31. We had a great time. We have been to Monterey many times and it was amazing all the things Tim pointed out that we had walked by before and never noticed. Tim's knowledge of the area and history was amazing. Tim also used... More

My friend and I enjoyed the 2+ hours of walking, talking, listening and learning with Tim. Through his research and his first hand knowledge, Tim crafted a very interesting tour. Bring an extra jacket as it's entirely outdoors and it's colder by the water! Well worth the time and $ to include in your trip to Monterey.

Just completed a great tour with Tim Thomas. He was knowledgable and shared the social side of Monterey's history. He was friendly and committed. In a tour, its the little things that count and he didn't disappoint. More than what was written on all the signs around town, which I've rarely read, we learned that Monterey had a diverse workforce... More

My wife and I enjoy learning about the history of the areas that we visit and vacation at, and so we were happy to learn about this historical tour given by Tim. We took the tour earlier today and it was perfect! Tim was born and raised in the Monterey area, and is a historian by trade, so he really... More

This tour was the highlight of our time in Monterey. Without having done this tour first, walking around the main strip of Monterey would have been almost indistinguishable from the tourist districts of any other US city-- the Starbucks, the cheap souvenir shops, the Bubba Gump Shrimp chain, fudge, etc. After the tour we knew what buildings were original cannery... This is long overdue: I booked a tour through Groupon and took my son to Monterey. Although the policy says children must be 10 years old my son was 9 at the time. He did fine, though, albeit started fading at the end. I was stationed in Monterey in the late 1980's, and my family (great aunt & uncle) owned... More
