Very friendly employees and an exhibit Made in Monterey that was very nice with terrific paintings.. The museum is airy and light. more

If you only have half a day in Monterey (and you are not travelling with small children) I would recommend you visit La Mirada museum before you go to the omnipresent Monterey Bay aquarium. The historic building is surrounded by beautiful gardens and fountains. Inside is a wonderful permanent collection of photograpy and american art. If they added a coffee... more

Monterey Museum of Art is really two museums in different locations. LaMirada, is just outside of downtown, in a lovely historic mansion, while the other is on Pacific St. is near the historic section of town. Both are lovely places with very good art collections. One our recent visit there was a free jazz concert as well as Matisse cutouts... more
