Whether you are a complete novice trying sailing for the first time, or an experienced ocean veteran ready to take your seamanship to a higher level, we offer American Sailing Association (ASA) classes taught to your skill level. Monterey Sailing Monterey Bay Sailing is a professional sailing organization established in 1998 whose mission is to offer residents of the Monterey Peninsula communities and visitors an affordable opportunity to sail the central coast. Marine mammals seen frequently include grey, blue and humpback whales who blow, or breach as they migrate with their calves. Sea otters, dolphin and vocal sea lions enjoy one of the most pristine areas of the entire Pacific. On cruises, all sailors are offered a chance to take the helm and discover the grace and beauty of a boat under sail. Choose a captained cruise for a more relaxing voyage in the world's second largest marine sanctuary. Cruises are safe, affordable, family fun for all ages. For sailors who want to become active in the sport, a membership in Monterey Bay Sailing Club reduces the cost of certification courses and bareboat rentals by 50 - 70%. Bareboat rentals are available for non-members who are certified and qualified to bareboat. The Monterey Bay Sailing fleet offers a selection of boats suited to the local conditions. The local conditions are a sailors paradise. Typically, 345 plus days of good to excellent sailing conditions predominate annually. The prevailing west to northwest wind ranges predictably from 8-15 knots. The ASA sailing school is instructed by professional sailors with decades of experience. ASA certifications are valid for life and recognized internationally. We are dedicated to teaching safety and seamanship and give you the confidence to fulfill your sailing goals and dreams. « less

We booked an appetizer sunset sail for four couples (one of which was going to propose on the boat) with Bennie. We arrived at the dock to find out that the credit card used to hold the reservation was fully charged even though one of the couples could not make it. This was not explained at the time the reservation... More

This was my first time sailing out of Monterey - Dutch has a beautiful fleet of sailboats and it was an excellent experience. Dutch is a seasoned professional sailor but more important provides first-class customer service and is very knowledgeable about Marine biology and the history all the Monterey Bay Peninsula. I would highly recommend Monterey Bay Sailing to anyone... More

First time for me and my 3 daughters, wife has gone before. We lucked out and had the boat to ourselves. Dutch was very helpful and had nonstop info about the bay, weather and wildlife. Perfect weather! All in all a great time and reasonable rates. If families are looking to something other than going to the aquarium again, this... More

We called Dutch in the morning and he immediately accommodated us for a morning private cruise complete with wine! Over the two hour cruise we got a taste for the ecosystem and sailing. We saw sea lions and otters fishing. We both even sailed the boat. Dutch is a super chill guy and will make you feel comfortable aboard the... More

We by-passed some great restaurant reservations to enjoy this sunset cruise. You can eat good food most anytime, but cruise the Monterey bay is not nearly a common option. Our fears of rain did not materialize as we had the perfect evening for sailing. Dutch was great as he was "scraping a little money out of the ocean." For the... More

We went for a "sunset" cruise and were told it would be 2 hrs, free flowing wine with a total of 4-6 passengers. First, there were 8 (too many in my opinion for this size of boat) so Dutch asked if 2 of us would be willing to sit at the front of the boat "best viewing seats". So, my... More

From the moment we walked up, we were treated kindly. My friend was hesitant to go sailing (she doesn't dig water and has a hard time getting on/off boats due to mobility issues) but her concerns were quickly addressed with kindness (and without judgement) by the staff (I think his name was Townsend?) and we booked our half hour cruise.... We took my husband sailing as a treat for father's day this year, then went back the next two weekends in a row with other friends. Heading out on the bay with Monterey Sailing just adds a great spark to make a weekend special. If our friends are up for it this weekend, we may make it four in a... More

Captain Dutch and First Mate Dakota combine to form an A-1 duo and memorable experience of sailing the Monterey Bay. Their ship is stalwart and true and their knowledge of the sea and local life is a thing of beauty like a line straight from Steinbeck. My new bride and I had a great time, were very comfortable and well... More
