Love the entire drive. The squirrels were so tame! They were literally inches from my camera! We saw 2 deer in the golf course near Roy's restaurant and I managed to get within 10meters of one of them before it decided to get away from me. It is a little known fact that your entrance fee can be REFUNDED by... More

The views were as beautiful as ever this trip, but the overcast skies dampened the experience. I was also disappointed that there were no seals on Seal Rock as there have been other times I visited.

A beautiful drive but I'd start in Monterey and not like we did this time, off Highway 1, as that gate takes you around all the roads on the hill, the residential area. Better to stay along the coast. Beautiful scenery. You have to pay though to go on this drive, something I didn't remember from our last time, 20... More

This is everything you'd expect it to be - from the mansions, to the seashore, to the wildlife. It's a little "low rent" to charge to drive the loop, and even more "low rent" to charge 25 cents for the telescopes, but other than that, this is worth the drive.

My family of 12 were very excited about the 17 mile drive. However when we got to the entrance to pay, instead of charging us $9.75, they wanted us to pay $5 per person!! Totally not worth $60! Very disappointed with their ridiculous overcharging scheme!

We love the water and the ocean so we often do drives around where we live on the Washington coast so when we came to Carmel and did this drive we didnt really see why they would charge for this. We have seen much more spectacular views on other drives without paying a fee. I guess it is ok to... More

It's 17 miles of twists and turns with incredible views around each corner. Lots of turn-offs where you can park to admire the scenery, sea lions or take a walk.

Even though the Highway 1 drive that takes you to this region is already an amazing one, I believe you should do the 17-mile drive at least once! There are great spots for pictures (I added some of mine to this review) and I really enjoyed looking at the houses that surround the road. Some people complain that these houses... More

The 17-Mile Drive is something you should do if you're in the area on a sunny day and have a couple of hours to spare, but it's not all that special, especially if you are driving through Big Sur, which offers funner stops, better views, and doesn't cost $9.75. Unlike most of Big Sur, however, the drive gives you a... More
