wasn't blown away, really nothing exciting to see, lots of people fishing. Cannery row is better or just go to carmel by the sea

Best time to visit is in middle of week. We found the wharf clean and folks real friendly. We ate outside of a fish/steak café--staff quite friendly and provided fast service.

We have been to Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf on several occasions over the years and it doesn't change... The Wharf was built by the Pacific Coast Steamship Company in 1870 for the loading and unloading of passengers and goods but it soon became a tourist attraction. As such Fisherman's Wharf is lined with seafood restaurants ranging from casual open-air clam... More

I can definitely see the draw of this place for first-time visitors to Monterey. On a beautiful warm day in January (the best time to visit if you ask me) it's fun to stroll down to the end of it and browse all the kitschy wares at the retail stores, watch the guy putting tropical birds on kids' shoulders and... I brought 2 exchange students here: 1 from Japan and the other from Germany. Both hadn't heard anything about Monterey in their home towns, but they really loved their experience. They were trying clam chowder from all of the eateries. We all walked for miles, and didn't mind at all. You can walk, push a baby stroller easily from this... More

I enjoyed our time on the wharf but its mostly shopping and restaurants. It is a smaller area and being on a weekend the was a peddlers fair on one end. This is where you can go for a fishing trip or whale watching as they leave from here. Great views.

touristy restaurants, nowhere to just sit and enjoy the scenery. I'd skip it - so much to see around!
