at least once. I would say the Monterey wharf deserves a one time walk through. you get views of the boats and the seals and can stop by a shop or two...but quite honestly, there is nothing on the wharf that warrants a second visit. (unless you like candy...plenty of candy shops!!)

Fisherman's Wharf is a popular tourist spot with many restaurants. When you arrive you will hear the seals barking and it's fun to wander around so see them lounging under the boardwalk. There are multiple places to catch a boat for Whale watching and a large observation deck above the restaurant at the end of the Wharf (it's free to... More

No trip to San Francisco is complete without a visit to the restaurants here. There is always something happening and you can grab a bread bowl of chowder at a number of places, all of them good.

We stayed overnight in Pacific Grove and passed thru this area the night before on our way to the hotel. We thought it looked interesting enough to double-back the next morning before proceeding to Big Sur area. I am glad we stopped because we do like marinas, wharfs, piers and the like. There was lots of activity that morning but... More

It was cute not a whole lot to do but my 6 year old just loves watching the ocean so he was satisfied. We walked around for a bit and tried all the clam chowder samples they were handing out. Yum. Seemed like a lot of shops were going out of business. The wharf may need a little revamping to... More

Take half a day and go see the seals while you have a drink in an ocean front restaurant. We tried to book whale watching but it was the day after the holiday and the operators did not seem interested in doing their afternoon itinerary.

The wharf is bustling night and day. Plenty of shops and restaurants. Viewing areas to see the local seals, noisy they are too! A great place to walk around and enjoy the sights and smells.

We stayed at a hotel about 10 minutes walk from the Wharf. There are many interesting stores and restaurants on the wharf, about 5 or 6 of which have great ratings. There is one that makes pizza in an oven heated with Almond wood. I can't believe how many candy stores there are in the area. They must be sponsored... More

My wife and I stopped in so see what was happening on the Old Fisherman's Wharf and ended up eating at the Fish Hopper Restaurant. The sourdough bread bowl filled with clam chowder was excellent. We also enjoyed the Fish and Chips. I had the Halibut and my wife had the Cod. We both agreed that it was excellent.

We had an overnight stop in Monterey and visited the wharf before travelling on south. Monterey seems to have the same cold foggy mornings as San Francisco so we just took a quick walk up the pier which has a few little shops and plenty of sea lions if you look over the edge. We found quite a few near... More
