The wharf is bustling night and day. Plenty of shops and restaurants. Viewing areas to see the local seals, noisy they are too! A great place to walk around and enjoy the sights and smells.

We stayed at a hotel about 10 minutes walk from the Wharf. There are many interesting stores and restaurants on the wharf, about 5 or 6 of which have great ratings. There is one that makes pizza in an oven heated with Almond wood. I can't believe how many candy stores there are in the area. They must be sponsored... More

My wife and I stopped in so see what was happening on the Old Fisherman's Wharf and ended up eating at the Fish Hopper Restaurant. The sourdough bread bowl filled with clam chowder was excellent. We also enjoyed the Fish and Chips. I had the Halibut and my wife had the Cod. We both agreed that it was excellent.

We had an overnight stop in Monterey and visited the wharf before travelling on south. Monterey seems to have the same cold foggy mornings as San Francisco so we just took a quick walk up the pier which has a few little shops and plenty of sea lions if you look over the edge. We found quite a few near... More

While filled with typical tourist shops, Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey is pedestrian friendly to get to from "downtown" Monterey. Whether you shop or not, don't miss the opportunity to photograph the Sea Lions, which waddle onto platforms to snooze! Also, there are local historical museums detailing the history of Monterey. My wife had a conference in Monterey, so of... More

Typical wharf with touristy shops and restaurants. Nice historical walk back in time. Center hosts lots of local events. Italian festival was there that weekend.

This area may have been nice at one time but we felt it was dirty and trashy. Would not go back. Several street people around. Restaurants giving samples of chowder to get you to come in but it was too much and what we had wasn't that great.Shopping was tacky tourist.

Lots of boats tied to the docks and a seal floating dock to watch them rest play. Nice area to eat and some shopping available.

Lots of good Italian and Seafood restaurants along the wharf competing for your business, almost like carnival barkers!

My wife and I sampled the crab soup in Crab Louies, watched the seals basking off shore, and admired the marina.
