We parked in the large lot next to all the restaurants. $1.50/hour and we paid for one hour. We did not originally plan on going to the beach, so we didn't pack for it and didn't plan on staying long. LO had not liked the beach in previous experiences, but she loved it this time! Granted it was about 80... More

It seems there is always something happening on the wharf. Rarely is the weather so horrible that you can't enjoy a walk, a few clam chowder samples. On most weekends, there is something happening on the wharf (an event, music, festival, etc.) so be sure you have a few hours to spend.

Go to the Old Fisherman's Wharf website and print out the VIP card. For the most part you get a free appetizer with an entree at many of the restaurants. I was disappointed that there were so many vacant stores on the wharf.

Went to the Wharf for dinner but not as impressed as I would like to have been. Shops are geared to tourists and food was just ok.

Great to walk out and see the seals and birds. Best part is each place gives out samples of their clam chowder so you get a nice mini meal on your walk.

TIP: Park for free on Figueroa. Nice little walk to the wharf but still very close. Not a large wharf, mainly has a few souvenir shops, jewelry shops, whale tours, candy shop and many restaurants offering free sample of chowder. We chose Old Fisherman's Grotto but they also have a stand you can buy it and take. Nice stroll along... More

A great way to spend some time thinking about what the cannery business was all about back in the day!

This place can kind of feel like a trap if you're unprepared! A lot of people trying to "sell" you their restaurants. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "try our chowder!" But the views, man, the views were absolutely worth it. We killed about an hour walking around all parts of the wharf taking in the... More

How can you go wrong here...tastings for chowders, (etc), wonderful restaurants, fresh fish markets, wine/bar stops overlooking the water, candy, memorabilia, sea lions lounging and otters to entertain you, and so much more! Meander down the wharf and you can get lost in the historical feel of the place.
