See the sea lions!

A must see. Drive south of Carmel and see the wonder beach of Garrapata. Gorgeous views and beautiful sand. You will see the sea lions in their natural habitat.

This is a spectacular beach! The water was too cold for us, but not for many others--including sea lions! We just got out to look around, and we're glad we did! Definitely worth a stop.

It was a very great experience and hard at the same time. went here to hike with friends on a mid-morning session. the view was magnificent but when you come here on a late morning, it gets hot since it has no shade. however, you get a great work out because the climb is steep.

A beautiful, sandy and clean beach in Big Sur! Nice hiking trails and it wasn't crowded when we visited.

Garrapata was an amazing experience! The waves were big and there's no lifeguards, so you cant really go swimming, but it's so nice - the sand is soft and white, there is a cliff that you can climb to the top of, the beach isn't crowded, there's stairs leading down from the road, and its a great place to watch... AMAZING! Do I really need to say more? The ocean, the beach, the views! Only wish I would have stayed for sunset.

What else to say? You must go if you are close. As I have a baby I can tell you that there are no bathrooms and no shadows, so be carefull with the sun. Anyway It is just a great beach with a fantastic view and interesting waves. Don't miss it!

A great wild beach, windy, waves and a big stretch of sand. We really enjoyed this beach for its force of nature. Is cooler in the morning and warm in the afternoon even with the wind. Not a swimming or wading beach...too much rip current!

for the area this is a great beach. cannot compare to southern California, however, as the weather is usually cooler and mistier here.
