Cheap shops, average food and dipping' dots. Not my cup of tea. We enjoyed traveling off on our own and exploring nearby areas and coastline.

I read how the place was over-touristy now and saturated with retail chains... and it is. BUT, with that said, what do you expect? It's a tourist destination! I get it... it is commercialized and it does take away from the "charms" of Steinbeck's tales past. But it's still maintained the architecture and there are just enough relics and informative... Lots of trash and trinket shops. Some nice clothing stores. Candy and junk food available. Starbucks and Peet's only good coffee.

Most scenic ad lovely place to walk from the corner of Monterey plaza hotel to the monument ,called Cannery Row. Variety of shops and restaurants on both sides of the Row along the small but beautiful stretch will give you satisfaction , especially if you love shopping. Cannery row monument is worth visiting where we can see Nobel prize winning... More

We had a great time walking around and enjoying a bowl of clam chowder at a restaurant on the water. There are lots of fun shops as well as the aquarium here, but we didn't have time for the aquarium this trip. Parking is a little hectic but there are meters (which are "on" on the weekends for sure).

We were very pleased to see that the area has made a real come back from near collapse of several years ago. I am sure the building of the Monterey Bay Aquarium made the recovery possible. The area was clean and very active the whole time we were there.

This are has a lot of history. It would be good to educate yourself and family before you go. There are a few of the usual tourist shops. Very easy to get to if you use the free Monterey Trolley.

Yes, Cannery Row has a nice architecture and holds historical significance - but is filled with tacky gift shops, restaurants chains and sweet shops. I expected a more charming set-up. It only took us 20 minutes to walk up and down, had a quick rest on the 'Forrest Gump' bench, that was it. There is a free shuttle bus from... More
