This was touristy, crowded and overpriced. But what do you expect? Welcome to Cannery Row! Apart from the Aquarium which is great there is very little of note in Cannery Row. Junky tourist shops, overpriced restaurants serving dreadful food. Cannery Row has it cousins all over the country and if you've been to one of those tourist traps you've been to Cannery Row. Steinbeck would not recognize the place. Cannery Row is very touristy, but if you are like me and like tourist traps, then you'll love it! There are lots of shops to browse and buy souvenirs. There are restaurants all along the waterfront. It's really nice to just walk around. Don't just stay on Cannery Row. There are also restaurants and shops along Foam St. and Lighthouse... more

Monterey and cannery Row were part of a long trip with my wife through the California coast, and the most disappointing. It is just a line of restaurants and shops, very touristy in a not very special area as compared to pretty much everything else on the coast. Pros Cons Great Restaurants . . . . . . Long waits A Few Good Shops . . . . Mostly overpriced Art galleries Easy to get around the area . . Traffic on the main drag and on Lighthouse Rd. can get REALLY BAD most of the day. more
