You can rent a private room or a dorm room. Two community kitchens to cook in. Cafe called Hostel Grounds. Meet people from all over the world in a beautiful, relaxed environment. Wooden hot tub on bluff above crashing surf. Only lighthouse in the world that has stood overlooking the Atlantic and then the Pacific Oceans. Started on cape Cod... More

We had a private room and our daughter, son-in-law and 12 year old grandson had the room next door. We shared the bathroom with them...and with other folks staying in the group room. That last part was unexpected....the place offers great access to the beach below, a lovely double swing, clean and cozy rooms and a great price! We ate... More

Point Montara Lighthouse has the most beautiful views in the area. People say it is hard to find. Driving south, you can see it as you approach. There is a huge sign with a replica of the lighthouse at the entrance. This is what you look for if driving north. If you are staying at the Hostel, what a good... More

My daughter really wanted to try sleeping at one of the lighthouse hostels on the California coast and Montara was the only one that had a room available. What a beautiful setting with the coast on each side and a very nice tide pool just below. The rooms were decent and clean; the staff very friendly and helpful. Just be... More

The lighthouse is not open for visitors. It's a beautiful spot though. For those who like to get stamps in their US Lighthouse Society passports, they have stamps at the hostel on site (not open during the day unless you're staying there).

Liked all, disliked nothing. Sleeping with the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, visiting with the wonderful people who staff the place, perfect!

A funky spot to stop and check out an old lighthouse that is now also a hostel if you wish to stay. It looks clean if you like that style. The view is great when the whales are running as they come right past
