I rented a convertible just for this drive on Hwy 1 from San Francisco to Mendocino and was so glad I did. I've done my fair share of scenic driving and this is an absolutely beautiful drive, one of the best I've ever taken. I would recommend this to anyone that likes views of the ocean. The only way it... More

We adore Mendocino and it's sister town Fort Bragg. Mendocino has a lovely bookshop, cute little natural foods store, and charming restaurants, and breathtaking ocean views. Fort Bragg is definitely a more commercial area, but there you will find larger grocery stores, fast food places, gas stations, etc - with the same amazing coastline. Fort Bragg also has a nice... Imagine a picture postcard village perched on the pacific coast...with its own small beach and great views over pacific. That is Mendocino, a 4 hour drive along coastal highway no 1 from San Francisco. It has a quaint little high street with good opportunities for food and shopping and also spa for relaxation after a long drive. There are many... More

Beautiful and funky little town. Walking distance to the most beautiful views. A number of terrific restaurants. We never got the art center and need to return to do so.

The Mendo Coastline is worth spending lots of time on. We took our ice chest full of goodies and just cruised up and down the coast to find spots to hike or just stop and look at.

The coastline is just spectacular - huge waves and very rugged. Could just sit and watch the surf for hours. When we went the weather was also beautiful, sunny and warm. Early morning fog but that melted away soon after breakfast. We had these views even from our room.

Now I will admit I have a passion for the West Coast coastline esp the rockier parts but this is a beauty. The rugged shoreline is great at almost every access point but the little towns are lovely as well. Mendocino itself is super.

The drive through the area was so peaceful and so beautiful, I felt like I had been to a spa, just so relaxed. It was foggy and cool, and surprisingly not congested on a Wednesday. I wanted to extend my visit by a week just to enjoy the scenery, and will definitely return for an extended visit.
