Took a trip to Mendocino, California. My daughter and I stayed at the Mendocino Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast. It was truly peaceful and quiet. The first night we ate an Italian restaurant called Cucina Verona in Fort Bragg 9 miles north. Great food. The next day we visited a few of the wineries in Anderson Valley. Our favorite was Toulouse.... More

We drove up the California Coast from San Francisco and it was an unforgettable experience and dramatic in every way...one minute you're overlooking the beautiful, turquoise waters and high cliffs of the coast and the next minute, you are engulfed on both sides of the road by tall, majestic trees. Route 1 had lots of twists and turns with different... More

I drove up Route One from San Francisco. An amazing drive with the windiest roads i've ever seen. An ever changing view of ocean, cliffs, beaches, forest, fields and ranch land. Take your time and believe the posted speed limits. Beware of bicycles and cattle . . . you never know what's around that next corner.

Can have a sunny skies or moody feeling about it. We love both its sunny days and its rainy times. A cool/cold wind, if bundled up, is part of the allure we love.

This is a great drive if you are in no hurry. Many vista points and access to the coast. The scenery is awesome, but you have to pay close attention to the road, a lot of sharp curves. Make sure you have gas in the car and use the restroom before you start - not many places to stop for... More

Wide panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Great trails that are easily accessible from parking lots.

The views are as nice as Big Sur with much less people. Lots of nice towns along the way, some great state parks, interesting beaches. Plus there is wine tasting inland at Anderson Valley. Really a great place.

A wonderful location. Gorgeous ocean. Lovely town and some fun shopping with good restaurants. About 3 1/2 hour drive from San Francisco. Stanford Inn allows pets and there are probably other pet friendly hotels. Little River Inn has a few private rooms right on the ocean with their own hot tubs. The restaurant here has excellent breakfasts and dinners too.

Walking along Mendocino Coast is one of the more refreshing things about this quaint area. The scenery is beautiful and the coastline has rugged areas where the ocean looks dangerous but you see abalone divers in the same area. On the other side of town, long smooth beaches, perfect for evening walks.
