We hiked the peninsula at the park and went to "devil's punchbowl". The sinkhole was an interesting site, but we enjoyed the various places along the ocean cliffs where water would flow in and then blow back out with a loud sound and a mist. We hiked maybe about 10 miles in this park. We saw the waterfall, kept going. From redwoods to 1,000,000s of plants, and zero bugs, we loved this park. I have stayed many times at other campgrounds in the area, but May 2008 was my first stay at Russian Gulch. It was less crowded than MacKerricher and Van Damme state parks, but also offered significantly less beach access.
