Audiences know the group for their wacky sketch comedy and lightning audience participation rounds, but for aspiring comedians and writers it's the Groundlings School that's the real draw. With courses in beginning and advanced improv, sketch and monologue comedy, the school has trained several generations of young wits. Its alumni includes a laundry list of "SNL"-ers (Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney, Will Ferrell, Laraine Newman), Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson and Emmy-winning "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow. The theatre was also the home of Paul Reubens' early, raunchier version of "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." With pristine standards and a pool of hundreds of talented newcomers to draw from, the troupe offers some of the quickest, cleverest improv in town, cozily presented in their own 100-seat theater. « less

If you're visiting L.A., this is a perfect night out. So much talent, and lots of fun. Parking is a pain. We ended up parking on a side street and getting a ticket. Ugh. But it's a fun time. No bad seats in the theater, and plenty of nearby restaurants within walking distance for dinner before the show.

It's a hit and miss, some performers are brilliant, while others are ok... Be sure to check out the cast before hand. The tickets are reasonable and it's something kinda fun to do in Hollywood. The theatre is intimate and quaint, I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. Parking is a pain, there's a valet station the... More

What a great way to spend a night out without it breaking the bank! We laughed and had a great time at the small West Hollywood improv club. Will definately return!!

This is the best comedy entertainment show I have attended and guess what. It's only 20 bucks and no drink minimum (they don't sell drinks). Almost 2 hours of skit type and improve comedy. Not a children show as the language and skits are geared for an adult audience, but also the language and skits are not filthy. (in fair... More

Not to be missed any tine we're in town. Lately, we've seen a number of The Black Version which are done every other Monday nights. Highly recommended!

went to the peanut gallery on tuesday night to see a screening of the best cinematic trainwreck of a movie called "vibrations" with commentary from comedians sitting with the audience in the theater. it was the best 5 dollars i've spent in a long time. totally worth it if you're in the area.

Loved it and nothing comparable in New York. The talent was very impressive. Overall a great evening out in LA. We went Monday but the Sunday show is apparently the best.

Love the Groundlings. Of course, I love improv. Best night to go is Thursdays as it's homecoming for the working actors. You'll see lots of performers you've seen on TV and in films and they are SOOO GOOD.

I was expecting improv, but the show was 85% sketch comedy with only 4 short improvs. It was occasionally very funny, but a number of the sketches went flat. The show I saw today (Saturday) was called Dungeons & Groundlings. For some bizarre reason they ended the show with a sketch that involved a song that wasn't funny at all.... More
