People here knew about the area...that was great. They gave good advice on where to go and what to see. Thank you!

A range of static exhibits, passionate rangers and short films that screen every hour. The information available is absolutely comprehensive - covering the lakes ecosystem, the part it plays in bird migration, the history of it's native people & pioneering immigrants, the wildlife, the geology & the immediate challenges of securing a future for mono lake. I reckon, even if... More

We stopped here our first morning in Lee Vining and we came away with trail maps, naturalist tour info and a really good overview of Mono Lake history. Such enthusiasm and good will is contagious.

There are markers all the way from the visitors' center down to the lake indicating the former depth of the lake. It has been heavily drained by the city of Los Angeles over the decades.

Only thing that was sad was that they ran out of Junior Rangers Badges, so my kids were disappointed. Other than that it was very informative, and the exhibits were great.

Definitely recommend a stop here if you plan to explore the lake area especially hiking out to the tufas. The center has some great exhibits that talk about the lake's history and future as well as showing how the tufas are formed. It sports clean restrooms and a nice little gift shop. In addition there is a park ranger there... More

The Mono Basin Visitor center is a bit of history and explanations of a unique piece of California. Let me explain. The history of Mono lake can be interesting for the history buffs. The early people living here under the harsh conditions of the area give a vista into another era. The features that have been carved under the lake... More

The center is a great place to look around. After a great meal at Bodie Mikes, it is fun to drive out there and watch the sun go down and stretch your legs before retiring to your room. It is a beautiful location.

The area is very scenic and at first it appears to be just another nice lake. Visiting the visitors center was an eye opening experience and great presentations on the geological and environmental issues here were informative. Static displays and movies explain how wildlife adapt to the unique surroundings and actually thrive. There is also great opportunities for photos and... More
