Clean and informative visitors centre with walk round facility that the children may enjoy. Outdoor viewing area as well. Plenty of parking and easy to find.

A very good centre with lots of exibits and explanations about the ecology of the lake and its history. Good, though not close, views of the lake and a shop where you could buy books and guides to the local wildlife

This is the first place to visit before exploring Mono Lake and the basin. The museum is excellent and there is a movie running regularly throughout the day. They also have a nice gift shop too.

...so the center was closed. Nevertheless, we were able to glean a lot of information from the information boards at the Center and on the trail to the Lake. Several school parties were there, enjoying their visit and eating the fly larvae!!

Mono lake was a great experience, we were handed an information sheet and there was plenty of information boards showing pictures and descriptions of the wildlife. However, I do think you are missing a trick, maybe it was just the time of year we went (Sept), but our party were looking forward to canoeing on the lake, however on asking... More

We just blundered into this hauntingly beautiful valley, its saltwater lake and fascinating history. We spent 4 hours there and could have stayed for days. The Visitor Center film on John Muir and his work in the area was moving and motivating. I brought 4 copies for grandnieces and nephew. Do visit and then spread word of this unique treasure... More

The visitors center is built on the top of the hill over Mono Lake. You can view the inactive volcanoes and see the Tufas. The rangers are really knowledgeable and seem to really enjoy their work. The gift shop is great. The historical displays are very well done. Definitely visit before going to the lake side since it's much nicer... More

Having seen some photos of the lake on TA we made a point of stopping off here on our road trip.. Tourist centre provided a good background to how the features appeared, but you need to head east to the viewpoint to see it at its best close up, only a few minutes away from the centre
