The center building is surrounded by an extensive network of trails beside and down to the lake. Some are wheelchair accessible. The building itself includes a variety of informative exhibits, a gift shop with a wide selection of maps, books, and of course tshotchkes, and the rest rooms (at the one I visited) were large and clean.

The Mono Lake Visitors Center is top notch! You will learn a great deal of history about the lake and why it is in its current predicament. The displays are really updated and interactive. We had a 7 year old to a 79 in our group and it was great for all. If in the area, its a must visit!!

Mono Lake Visitor Center is a nice place to stop to learn more about the lake when visiting the area. We have stopped there and seen the center's film Of Ice and Fire: A Portrait of the Mono Basin. It is a 20 minute film and is excellent on the lake and area. Do check the days Mono Lake Visitor... More

I stopped the morning after photographing the Full Moon of October over Mono Lake. This might have been a better vantage point.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the information and the souvenirs were outstanding. We bought some cuddly toys. Right outside the Center are a few sign-marked walks and the surroundings are just beautiful. However, if you go in summer, avoid stopping here in the hottest hours (we abstained from taking one of the walks because it was extremely hot... More

The Mono Lake Basin is a fascinating location and this Visitors Center is well laid out and provides a great overview of the area. Budget an hour ... more if you take one of the Ranger Talks. Parking is plentiful and free. Restrooms are clean. Facility is handicapped accessible. Take the time and stop here. Make sure to bring your... More

Stopped in before a visit to Yosemite, found a ranger who was very helpful. Saved us time and money by suggesting different Yosemite hikes than I had planned. If you have to pick between Yosemite and Mono, pick Yosemite of course. But if you are just cruising through, plan a stop at this visitors center.

People here knew about the area...that was great. They gave good advice on where to go and what to see. Thank you!

A range of static exhibits, passionate rangers and short films that screen every hour. The information available is absolutely comprehensive - covering the lakes ecosystem, the part it plays in bird migration, the history of it's native people & pioneering immigrants, the wildlife, the geology & the immediate challenges of securing a future for mono lake. I reckon, even if... More

We stopped here our first morning in Lee Vining and we came away with trail maps, naturalist tour info and a really good overview of Mono Lake history. Such enthusiasm and good will is contagious.
