This Hillside Garden is well worth visiting but not all on level ground. The home is a time capsule for Mid Century admirers and the gardens surrounding it a well planted hillside delight. You must arrange in advance your visit, and parking is not on site. I felt privileged to be allowed to view this memorial to Hortense Miller and... More

If you live locally, or have thoroughly sampled the Coast Cities offerings, this Laguna Beach special is an extra added attraction. The website gives some details, but one may end up telephoning the City of Laguna Beach to make reservations several weeks in advance since access is limited in this residential area of Boat Canyon. You are required to make... More

Laguna Beach is known for its art galleries, beaches, the Pageant of the Masters, and quirky residents. Hortense Miller was a perfect fit in the fourth category. A woman, who at 50, created a unique native plant garden on a steep mountainside. Visit, not just for the garden, but for the entire experience. There is the garden, the house, and... More

This is a classic mid-century home sited high in Boat Canyon with forever views of the Pacific coastline. The house has had some recent and significant restoration and contains original furnishings and Miller's original artwork. The gardens are a mix of native chaparral, perennial borders and specimen plants collected by Miller on her journeys around the world.Definitely worth the trip;... More

This was our 2nd tours of the gardens and it was even better than our first visit. Out docent was great. The property was left to the city and they maintain both the house and the multilevel gardens. Definitely jot wheelchair accessible. A fair amount of walking up and down stairs, some with no hand rails. I love gardening and... More

My husband and I called and got reservations to tour this property last week . I had high expectations and while it was an interesting diversion from the usual in Laguna Beach I was really hoping for more . The house is small and charming . Definitely the highlight of the day for me as well as hearing about the... More

GREAT place if mid-century Architecture and furniture is your thing. The gardens are nice also. But, you MUST call much in advance as tours are by appointment only -the ONLY bummer about this place... I really wish they would just open it full-time and let people come spur of the moment. You better check two or more weeks in advance... More

Nestled in the hills above Laguna Beach is the charming home of the late Hortense Miller. If you are into mid-century architecture and/or gardening, be sure to call the Dept. of Recreation in Laguna to schedule a tour. The home, which is lovingly maintained by volunteers, is well worth the stop.
