My wife and I visited yesterday. A very nice veterans memorial at the top of a hilltop with a 360 degree view of San Diego. The memorial itself is moving and interesting - small plaques honoring individuals including service records. Quite an interesting drive up and down too. Add this destination to a day when you are out in the... More

The Mount Soledad Cross (longer name Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial Cross) was dedicated in 1954 as a tribute to all branches of armed forces of American servicemen and women. It is a prominent landmark located atop Mount Soledad in San Diego's La Jolla neighborhood. Mount Soledad is not only a veterans memorial, but also a "vista point" where locals and... More

Busy place on a sunny Sunday afternoon, mix of young people and seniors. Views in all directions, hiking trails start here. The individual memorial plaques are quite moving, set into the tiers of low walls that encircle the cross.

Situated atop a mountain in Soledad Park, the Mount Soledad Veterans' Memorial honors those lost in battle since the Korean War. Although the giant cross has stirred controversy in recent years, I believe it is important to honor the lives lost regardless of your religious beliefs. Parking and admission are both free, so it's well worth the trip. There is... More

A great drive up the hill from Hidden Valley to Via Capri. This spot looks over in every direction Great for sunrise or sunset. Views of La Jolla Shores, The "Cinderella's Castle" (Mormon Temple) and Mission Bay. Great view of the city lights on a clear night.

Such a great way to honor veterans...this HUGE cross is set on a hill and there have been people trying to take it down, but its such a city treasure, hope it stays forever as it was built to bring honor to those who've fallen.

We really enjoyed our visit to Mount Soledad on a very clear day, which allowed us to see all of San Diego and as far as Mexico.

Spectacular view from the top of San Diego, LaJolla, and outlying areas. Very impressive with photos/names of all those who have given their lives for us. Also famous people like Bob Hope, etc. who served our troops in the USO.
