Scenic view to Lake Toya

We took Orifure Pass to Lake Toya and did not regret it. Beautiful scenery of mountains and lakes instead of taking the Highway to Lake Toya.

My first day of driving in Japan and I just fell in love with the experience after taking this route from Noboribetsu to Lake Toya. The scenery was just amazing and the road so lovely windy and twisty. There were surprises around almost every corner and very little traffic. I had not intended to take this road, but had simply... A nice drive down to Lake Toya across the pass. May seem quite long on the GPS but truth be told, probably only adds about 30 mins to the journey. Nevertheless, quite a few places to stop and take pictures and definitely a scenic beautiful drive

Right choice to drive Route 2 instead of expressway from Noboribetsu to Toyako. Very pleasant and quiet drive in the morning, meandering at times but not that bad. Great reward at Orofure Pass - a lookout point with car park.

We were considering whether to drive to lake toya via the highways or the orofure pass after visiting noboribetsu and were so glad we chose the latter. Firstly on the practical side, the time difference is really not much. Google map may indicate a much longer drive via the pass but it is based on the very slow speed limit.... More

The road actually passes through a tunnel under Mt. Orofure, which is an hour's climb from the north side. The parking on the south side has views of the Pacific Ocean. The north side has views of Niseko. Dramatic.
