Great place to go, but must have a guide!

If you have only two places to visit around Chongqing, this is the first, and the other is Wulong. This carving surprised me a little when I got there. Firstly, this carving has been very well conserved, even the color painting, knowing that most of this date from Song dynasty (more than 800 years so far). Secondly, almost all the... More

This place is great, but if you do not hire a tour guide (I did not), then your time here will be very short. I did not have a lot of time when I visited, but I hear that the tour guides will inform you of many interesting stories about each of the carvings. Without a tour guide you can... More

While these rock carvings are wonderfully preserved considering their age, it is their religious significance, beauty, and even humor, that makes them so very special. The English signage at the site does not do justice to the intricate stories and relationships. This site is principally the work of a Twelfth Century Buddhist monk, Zhao Zheifeng. When you get to the... More

Far from chong chin but worth the visit. Rows ot statues in a wild setting. Colors very well preserved and interesting reminders of ancient history if you have a good local guide.

One of the top caves and wall carvings in China. Among the best preserved conditions of it's kind in China, you have to see it to appreciate it. The color is vivid and beautiful. It takes special effort to visit here...only 2 hours from Chongquin.

The site takes c. 2.5 hrs to get to from Chongqing City. It is a solid day trip and we enjoyed the rock carvings - it helps to get a guide so that he / she can explain the Buddhist histories and stories behind the carvings. Probably need to budget c. RMB 2000 for a trip for 2 if you... More

an excellent rock carving site of China amongst many others - and if you have not seen any, this is as good or better.. But - at 170 Yuan plus 10 for the cart to get from the gate, that's US$30.00 Most expensive entrance fee anywhere?? Plus it's not easy to get there, three bus transfers and bus/taxi combination, no... More

We visited these rock carvings in September of 2014 with our tour group. The rock carvings are beautiful and our tour guide explained the significance of the rock carvings. The day we were here - it was raining constantly and it was difficult to concentrate of the explanation of the guide. The rock carvings are beautiful and a must see... More

The rock carvings are carved into the hill side. I think you basically walk around the hill and there are these rows of Buddhist art carvings depicting various stories of the Buddha's life, levels of hells, etc. On hindsight, I think I should have got a guide to appreciate it better (200RMB), because after a while the sense of wonder... the south bus station, or from Chongqing any bus station will take u dazu. On arrival at Dazu you then need to get across town to where the shuttle bus will take you to the attraction. A pedal taxi costs 10rmb and the shuttle bus costs only 3. On arrival the attraction entry ticket is a hefty 135rmb but it... More
