We last visited this park with a smaller motorhome, and now the size restrictions prevent us from going there. But it was a great place to go with kids, lots of hiking trails and a playground. Since the big fires here, campfires are restricted everywhere. This is a perfect place to go from fall to spring.

I can't remember which trails we did, but we ended up taking about a four-mile hike, combining a few trails. The trails were well-maintained, even in spite of the snowy conditions, and the views and foliage were just gorgeous.

Recently spent a couple of nites here "camping" in one of the 14 cabins in the park. The park is at about 4000 feet elevation and is a very nice park as others have mentioned. Cabins can be easily rented on the William Heise website and cost about $60/nite. We stayed in one of the newer cabins. They are quite... More

Close to Julian, this county park is well maintained and has several moderate to easy trails in the wild. One has a nice eastern view point. Late spring or early fall are our favorite times.

We have been going to William Heise Park for over 10 years now. We go during the week, not weekends, and even in the summer we are one of about 3 tent campers. The park is yours. Love the little trails around the park. We usually hike one each morning before breakfast. The Desert View has many steep climbs to... More

This park has great hiking trails. I enjoyed bird watching and found a spotted owl last year. This year spotted acorn woodpeckers, dark-eyed juncos, wild turkeys, blue jays. We usually stay friday through Sunday. Beautiful park.

We needed to get out of the car and stretch our feet..so we were told Heise was the place to go. Entry was $3. The trails were well marked. We chose the Desert View Trail..which combined with a piece of the Canyon View Trail was about 3 miles rdtrip. It was a great workout as it climbed to the top... More
