Lake Cuyamaca is a high mountain lake with Pine Forest, grassland and best of all trails to explore and enjoy the surrounding areas of the lake. There is fishing, but also horseback riding. The charming Lake Cuyamaca Cafe gives a good start or end to a pleasant day of fishing and hiking. You can watch the oprey and eagles from... More

Just a bit of background history, v.s. current status of area. My Grandmother owned a nice cabin on North Peak in Cuyamaca....where many family members, and family friends enjoyed gathering and staying over the years. This is back when there was no electricity, using kerosene lamps (which I still have), but thankfully, had a propane stove for heat. Our family... More

Spent a little time at the lake bird watching. There are several viewpoints around the lake. There is a $6 admission fee, good for all day. A pretty little spot.

I drove up to Lake Cuyamaca when I last stayed in Julian. I went not long after there was a huge fire which burned the hillsides. We stopped in an Austrian restaurant where the owner, Franz, explained to us that he had lost his house, but not his restaurant during the fire. If you like Austrian food, this is the... More

We ate at the Cuyamaca restaurant...just a sandwich, which was good, but the view was wonderful. We sat outside on the veranda overlooking the lake ...the weather was perfect...so serene and relaxing

This time of year Julian is really beautiful. So me and my fiancé decided to take a drive up there. And just behind the lake was this big empty field full of these yellow flowers that were covering the ground. So we decided to take a blanket and just go out and sit in this field and listen to the... More

We always visit the restaurant during October, when there is Austrian beer and good German food, and often an oompah band. Fritz never disappoints!

this lake, more like a large pond, is well stocked with trout and has a native population of bluegill to tempt the angler. Walks around the lake are easy and interesting if you don't fish

The authentic german sausage and sauerkraut was delicious. Try the homemade apple pie and ice cream!
