We love this area. 1897 Railtown is great. Beautiful scenery. We loved the Sonora Christmas Parade. I love to gold pan and use my metal detector. We also like to rockhound in the area. Great area for nature lovers and outdoorsy people.

I visited this park on 1-16-14 and had a great tour of the "roundhouse" and all of the interesting exhibits there. A history tour of the "Gold Country" would not be complete without a visit to this park. My thoughts are that this is a "must-see" attraction. An up close experience of how railway life here..."used to be." Early California... More

While in the Angels Camp/Murphys area we took an afternoon trip to Railtown. I'm a big railroad buff, but my lady is not. Still, we had a great time visiting the park - and my lady even had fun. The highlight for us was an informal tour of the Parlor Car - a great example of the grand old days... More

Great place to check out if you like trains at all! Really fun during christmas with the kids. Easy to find and so worth doing this little train ride.

The children enjoyed this trip to see the trains and engines. Sadly there were no trains running when we were there but we had fun poking around the trains and learning about early California history.

It was a heatwave so nobody was working except the lady inside the gift shop at the desk. However, although their would be no trains running and no tours of any sort, we were still charged full price. This was just so we could walk ourselves over to where the trains were stored. I would return again when everything is... More

We visited in November and the trains were not running but the volunteer led tour was very informative and interesting. See the trains from "Back to the Future" and "Unforgiven".

I was a little disappointed at first. The scenery was not that exciting but, Dave our tour host was amazing. He knew the history of the area and the train. He painted a wonderful and exciting adventure of gold mining in the area for us. After our train ride, we toured the round house. This tour was also so very... More

We toured Northern California with a focus on natural landmarks and of course, the history of the gold rush became an important theme. The Railtown 1897 State Historic Park was a great place to end our visit as it's history ties in with the end of the Gold Rush ...too late to keep the placer mines stocked with wood. The... More
