Preacher John did a great job of explaining and demonstrating what it takes to find gold. It was a busy weekend for panning but he spent a good amount of time with us. We walked away with some gold - now I can't wait to go again!

A perfect place to go to prospect for gold indeed! We weren't disappointed at all! Be ready to get your hands wet and wear a hat! The sun is hot but the rewards of panning for gold was so worth it!! Miner John is such an expert in this field, he has much knowledge of Gold mining, a lot of... More

There's gold in them thar hills.! And with the help of Preacher John (30-yr miner) we found some. My Daughter (13) has wanted to go panning for a long time so we carved out a few hours to have some fun. We had an awesome time, but Ill tell ya.. this is a no frills activity (fun 4 the whole... More

Good teaching. Where there only for 2 hours, but still found a little gold and had a great time. Good teaching. Where there only for 2 hours, but still found a little gold and had a great time.

I recently took a vacation with my son. It was an important time for us and all he asked to do was to go "Gold panning". Sadly, he was unable attend this school field trip with his classmates due to district busses and their budget cuts. Yes another let down for our youth and the school systems! I am a... More

We had such a great time with Miner John last weekend! This was our first experience and will certainly not be our last! his knowledge and patience was more comforting and encouraging! he took time to show me more of the "how to" techniques and explained the "why's" with care instead of making me feel like a nuisance (like a... I hadn't been mining since I was a kid, and was VERY happy I chose Jamestown and so were the wife and kids. This *is* the real deal, so if you're looking for an actual experience that you'll look back on for years to come, then don't look anywhere else in the area. John and company ARE the real deal... I went there on a field trip with my son's class. The "guide" and "panning instructor" was very informative and talked to the kids on their own level, without sounding condescending. My son was given a free pan because it was his birthday - very nice touch. Finding the gold was difficult for the kids, but they seemed to have... More

I did some research on gold panning near Yosemite, some places would put gold flakes in a bucket of sand and let you pan it out, that is not what I wanted. I wanted to get the gold out of the ground and that is exactly what we got. First, don’t expect any luxury there is nothing there, it’s a... More

After reading other reviews from Tripadvisor and viewing the various videos from the Jamestown website, I emailed Miner John to set up a two hour panning and sluicing session during Memorial Day weekend 2012. If acquiring gold was easy it would not be gold. This experience is the true Gold Rush experience. You can expect to work very hard digging... More
