Shield's is a great tourist place where you can shop, tour their garden, watch a sex film (Sex life of the date!) and eat. Great date shakes are the must have item on the menu. They have lots of neat tourist stuff including all kinds of dried fruit, nuts and date products. I love the date crystals as they keep... More

'The Sex life of a Date Palm' at Shields is a cute little, free film that the Shields people show in a small theater that has definitely seen better days. Should not be missed!

we always go out of our way to go to Shields. Of course we always have a date shake but this year besides the excellent major dates we bought we got a bag of grapefruit. All were excellent. Oh and the movies, "Sex Life of a Date," let's just say the movie was a bit "dated."

This is a very interesting place. 95% of all date grown in the US come from the Indio area. Make sure you view the movie about how they grow dates. Also have the date shakes, yum. They also have a pretty good cafe there

Enjoyed the movie"Sex life of the date". And the date shake was a valuE and tasted good. I thought their prices for the dates were high.

Shields Date Garden in Indio, CA is a great place to visit if you love to eat dates and/or if you've got time with family and friends while vacationing in the high desert of southern California. Convenient to our winter vacation in Palm Desert, CA friends took us for a pleasant and fun activity different from the hikes we take... More

Didn't eat here, so can't do a restaurant review, but the tasting room was lots of fun to visit. They give free samples of all kinds of tasty treats and dates. The movie they show, that tells the history of the date farm and just how difficult date farming truly is, was very interesting and gave us a whole new... More

It's been here for decades, and has evolved into a fun place to pick up local souvenirs and edibles. Looks like a great outdoor venue for lunch. We grabbed a shake to go. NOT disappointed!

We spent a few hours enjoying most of what the Date farm had to offer. Starting with enjoying a date milk shake while watching the history of shields and how dates are grown. We purchased date gifts for family and friends back home. Of course a few pounds of dates unique to the shields farm. We discovered when you purchased... More

The Shield's Date farm has a great little theater playing the history of the farm, and you can sample, buy, and even ship home every type of date imaginable (including some varieties only grown there). I highly recommend a stop!
