The parking area is accessible only from the northbound lanes and is not large. The walking paths are pretty flat and well done. There were lots of interesting birds, even though "regulars" said things were slow. Great place for photography, not only of the birds but also fish like stingrays.

If you can find parking, this is an ideal location for walking and bird watching. There is a small trailer on one side of the reserve which explains the reserve and signs at key intervals on the expansive dirt path. Take a sweater as it is windy and gets a bit chilly.

There are more pristine wildlife preserves than this one. However, it seems to be a favorite of Huntington Beach locals and has a rather large collection of docents who lead walks, staff the VC, and are otherwise available to help you on your little excursion. This Reserve sits across the PCH from the main section of Huntington Beach. Auto traffic... More

This area is a wonderful area to visit. Many species of birds and plants. You can walk miles of trails. You also see a number of "runners" as it's a great place to train with out the worry of getting hit by a car..

I like to think of Bolsa Chica as Huntington Beach's hidden gem. Not only is the presence of a wetland essential to the local environment, but its history sets it apart from other attractions. On some of the trails you can see the gun turrets that were installed during WWII for defense against a possible Japanese invasion, and if you... More

We used to live in Huntington Beach, and we remember the fight that took place between the land developers and the nature lovers, like us, over Bolsa Chica. The environmentalists won! If you love nature, you will appreciate this beautiful reserve. The walk is easy due to the level walkways and would probably even be wheelchair accessible (but you might... More

I came here with my grandmother and 2 of my aunts who required wheelchairs. We enjoyed a leisurely walk for a short while and saw plenty of birds (including egrets, cranes, herons, and hawks feeding near the trail. The trail was wheelchair accessible, but the dirt trail was a little bumpy.

I'm here at least once a week for a walk and run. I love the wildlife in the mornings. I see bunnies, squirrels, and coyotes. If you love bird watching, this is the place for you. You'll see herons, egrets, hawks, white pelicans, Canadian geese, and countless others. It's a great place for kids to learn about wetlands, native flora... More
