This area is a wonderful area to visit. Many species of birds and plants. You can walk miles of trails. You also see a number of "runners" as it's a great place to train with out the worry of getting hit by a car..

I like to think of Bolsa Chica as Huntington Beach's hidden gem. Not only is the presence of a wetland essential to the local environment, but its history sets it apart from other attractions. On some of the trails you can see the gun turrets that were installed during WWII for defense against a possible Japanese invasion, and if you... More

We used to live in Huntington Beach, and we remember the fight that took place between the land developers and the nature lovers, like us, over Bolsa Chica. The environmentalists won! If you love nature, you will appreciate this beautiful reserve. The walk is easy due to the level walkways and would probably even be wheelchair accessible (but you might... More

I came here with my grandmother and 2 of my aunts who required wheelchairs. We enjoyed a leisurely walk for a short while and saw plenty of birds (including egrets, cranes, herons, and hawks feeding near the trail. The trail was wheelchair accessible, but the dirt trail was a little bumpy.

I'm here at least once a week for a walk and run. I love the wildlife in the mornings. I see bunnies, squirrels, and coyotes. If you love bird watching, this is the place for you. You'll see herons, egrets, hawks, white pelicans, Canadian geese, and countless others. It's a great place for kids to learn about wetlands, native flora... More

We walk the reserve several times a year and it never gets boring. We usually do a three mile loop that takes an hour. Depending on the time of year the many species of birds that are there is impressive. We have seen the usual abundance of water birds but also hawks, buzzards, ospreys ( a fish hawk) and even... Visiting the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is always invigorating and refreshing. The wetlands will show the visitor a lot of waders like the grebes and scaups, occasional scoters, ruddy ducks and skimmers. If you walk up to the tidal gates, you may even see pelicans diving for fish. The reserve really is a great birding site. By the boardwalk, you... More

We were visitors to California and were a bit overwhelmed by the traffic and congestion. A morning spent walking the wetland paths and enjoying the wildlife was a lovely break. There are paths of varying lengths with benches along the way for resting or enjoying the views of the tidal ponds and many shore birds. Take binoculars, if possible.

Walk among the wetlands and see birds, fish and sometimes even dolphins. It is a great walk to take for R and R and for visitors to Orange County. Lots of bird watching, and is always a great time.
