I went here in summer which isn't the best time, I'm sure. It was right at the end if my holiday and I didn't have much time to devote to it, but still managed to pick up a few new birds, though missed out on Black Skimmer, which was the reason I went in the first place. Am sure it... More

Very cool day hike and very interesting little center across from beach. A long path including a little known military facts.

I grew up close to this area and always loved it. So nice to remind one that nature and wildlife is beautiful. The variety of birds is nice to see. Can find frogs and fish and lots of small creatures. Great area to watch meteor showers at night. Not much parking but totally worth a visit. Further along the nature... More

This place is unusual for having free parking since it's right across popular beaches. But whenever I've been here, I haven't seen people abusing the parking privilege, although I've mostly been here early in the morning. It's also relatively unusual as a park as I can't think of another place like this in LA or Orange County. This reserve is... More

It's difficult to see the sign from Pacific Coast Highway. Birdwatching was great and my Mom could see plenty of birds without the binoculars

Free parking available and usually you can see migrating birds in the area. You can also see the past history with the oil drilling that took place in the area. Seems like they're doing their best to keep the reserve but lots of houses are starting to creep into the area like some wicked blue dream. I love it when... More

Well, we loved the birds. We loved the quiet and all the paths. Be sure to bring binoculars and a bird book.

The parking area is accessible only from the northbound lanes and is not large. The walking paths are pretty flat and well done. There were lots of interesting birds, even though "regulars" said things were slow. Great place for photography, not only of the birds but also fish like stingrays.
