We visited in late October, in the wake of the government shut-downs and cutbacks. As a result, the road to the overlook was barricaded by concrete berms, although there were no "closed" signs visible. We parked outside the berms, hopped them, and walked the half mile or so up (and UP) the roadway. We naturally had the place to ourselves,... More

This Lake overlook was very pretty and a great place to see in Northern California. If driving in Sonoma County drive to this beautiful site near the Russian River.

Seemed like a nice area over all but with the government tapped out any road that didn't go somewhere not related to the park was barricaded. We did park and walk in to a few of the areas which seemed ok. Hard to really get a sense on the area with so much closed if you aren't already familiar with... More

A surprise. Did not expect the view from the top of the hill. 360 degrees of view, no tourists around, picnic tables. Very nice

We visited the lake on a sunny Monday morning at the beginning of September and it was beautiful. Fortunately the weather was kind to us so the views were amazing and the place almost deserted. The only disappointment was that the visitor centre was closed and the toilets nearby were in a very poor state.

Don't miss the Info Center and fish hatchery. Very interesting and well done! Much to learn about the effort to restore salmon and steelhead trout populations.

We drove up to the Lake Sonoma Overlook, which has a triple level deck with great views of the amazing blue waters of the lake and the surrounding countryside. It is a short, worthwhile trip up the Dry Creek Valley to take a break from the wine (or not if you want to take a bottle to enjoy with the... More

It was worth the short drive out there - the lake is very quiet and there are lookouts from the mountains around it. There is a particularly good one on the way to the marina where you can also see the dam - pretty impressive!

This bright blue lake in the middle of wine country is a great way to take a break and enjoy the country side. The overlook area is beautiful and the lake area with the dock is great to relax and enjoy a cold glass of wine. There are picnic tables available for lounging and lunching. Parking is plentiful. Cheers!

The drive to the lake from Windsor/Healdsburg takes you through scenic vineyards and dozens of great wineries open for tasting. The lake itself is tucked into a dramatic basin surrounded by oak covered mountains. We stopped at the marina to check out boat rentals and willo return to do that when we have a full day. One novel feature is... More
