Cool temperature hiking in California without going to the Sierras. The trail is being upgraded regularly and has a wonderful scent of the sea. There are not as many vistas as one would think, and sometimes it is hard to get a view of the beach from the trail, but hikers will love this option. It is especially friendly in... More

My wife and I have done it both ways, we have biked up the coast on this trail which links to many towns and beaches. We also like to stroll along this mainly flat trail holding hands. There is some great restaurants, tide pools and seals nearby which makes every trip memorable.

Great trail for hiking, running or biking. One section over a bridge has been in disrepair for a couple of years, necessitating a detour through town (which was not bad). Very scenic and a great bike ride on a day when it is not too crowded.

It's a bit bumpy and needs some more work in places and it really ought be extended on both ends but it's beautiful and scenic and refreshing along the sea shore. We've biked it many times over the years. The 'bridges' inplaces need to be redone or resurfaced, there are places along the way that the trail gets super narrow... More

Foggy morning or sunny afternoon, the Coastal Trail will reveal spectacular vistas and ample opportunity to explore this part of the California coast. Cliffs look down to breakers or beaches. Tidal pools form with the ebb and flow of the tides. Easily accessible- park at the Ritz and head in either direction. Maps and signs will keep you on the... More

If you don't walk the coastal trail in Half Moon Bay you're missing out on some of the most gorgeous ocean views anywhere. I did this both in bright sunshine and in a foggy mist. It's extraordinary whenever you go. If you're lucky you'll see whales, you'll almost certainly see surfers and amazing views.
