Stone Brewing Co. was founded in 1996 by Steve Wagner and Greg Koch in North County San Diego, CA. It is the largest craft brewery in the southwestern United States and has been named "All-Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth" by BeerAdvocate magazine - TWICE! A recently announced $26.6M expansion plan (that includes a hotel among other lofty ventures) is underway, as are developments to become the first American craft brewery to open a brewhouse in Europe. The adjacent Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens plays host to countless wildly popular beer and dining events, and is the largest purchaser of local, organic produce in San Diego County, including a growing amount from their own Stone Farms! In addition to promoting ethical eating, the restaurant boasts a lush one-acre outdoor garden as well as a line-up of 32 rotating taps and 100+ bottled craft beer selections for guests to enjoy.

With a conference in the neighborhood, I had a free couple of hours so I moseyed over here to take the tour. They have 4 tours daily during the week - you need to buy a ticket to get on the tour. I arrived at 11:00 for the noon tour, purchased my ticket, then went to grab lunch in Escondido.... More

Going to Stone is worth a detour. It's about 20 miles outside downtown San Diego, but worthwile to make the effort to visit. Situated in an industrial area and not immediately clear in which building they are, because there is no sign, but the welcome is good! Nice building, good bar and sitting area as well as inside as outside.... More

I'll be honest I'm not a huge IPA drinker; however, I know some of big IPA gurus in my group were a little disappointed and that our bottle version at home was better. Anyway, I would say there food was fabulous. Out of the 5 members from out group we all loved (not just liked) our meals. Things we ordered... More

Ridiculously hard to find even with a gps because they refuse to put signage on the road or on their property. Not even on the door to the restaurant. They explain that they prefer to rely on word of mouth and only real livers of craft beers would go to the trouble. They like it that way. Totally annoying. Nonetheless,... More

OMG this is by far one of the best places I have ever been to. Had appetizers, drinks, dinner. After dinner we got a drink and walked around grounds. This is definitely a hidden gem. There are lots of quiet places to sit, fire pits, etc. I can't wait to go back! Wish I lived closer.

I didn't have high hopes when we pulled up and I thought the GPS had directed us to the wrong place. From the outside the building looks like a corporate office building of some sort and there was no signage indicating this was a brewery, is this intentional? Walking inside, it was like night and day- this interior, patio and... More

Absolutely loved this place. We were staying in Carlsbad, so a quick 20 minute drive over to Escondido. A must visit for beer lovers. We had placed lunch reservations online and were promptly seated even though the place was packed. I had their beer sampler which was fantastic. For lunch, we had the Peruvian style chicken and the chicken schnitzel.... More

This place is always packed. Need to call ahead or you will wait for an hour plus for a table. Food is good. Service good as well. I usually just go to draft room and get jugs filled. Way better value.

We had an amazing meal at Stone after spending the day at the San Diego Safari Park. Pasta Bolognese and the brussels sprouts were excellent. Wonderful atmosphere and gardens. Will definitely go again when in the San Diego area.
