When you live in this area you hear about the Self Realization Fellowship. Word is that yoga, as we know it in the USA, came out of here. I finally had a chance to visit, and the gardens are lovely. There are spots that overlook the ocean and the path winds along. It isn't huge. As you would imagine, it... More

If is definitely worth experiencing the lovely atmosphere: peace, shade and gorgeous flowers in this meditation garden, very near the hermitage where Paramahansa Yogananda wrote "Autobiography of a Yogi".

A lovely meditation garden set on a cliff, high above the Pacific Ocean. The grounds are magnificent and immaculately maintained. Very old trees, flowers and plants. Lots of secluded spots for quiet, deep thinking. They have a stream running into a pond with lovely, mature koi. Note to parents: This is not a playground, please keep your children from screaming... It was a true delight to visit this serene and beautiful haven, after reading about it so many years ago. The experience transcended my expectations, as the grounds are beautifully maintained and an aura of peace permeates the gardens. There is a small display of artifacts and history relating to Yogananda's life adjoining the gift shop. The charm of our... More

The SRF keeps a beautiful and tranquil meditation garden on the site of the original temple. It's maintained lovingly by the fellowship. Although it's free, I always put a dollar or two in the donation box as I leave, with the hope that it will help keep up this treasure in Encinitas. There's a koi pond where you can sit... More

This is a great find not too many people know about. The Gardens are beautiful and quiet, on a bluff overlooking the ocean. There is a security guard present to make sure people respect the garden and don't disturb others who want a quiet place. It is closed on Mondays. The gift shop sits on the Coast Highway and has... The gardens here are absolutely worth a stop if you are in Encinitas! They are extremely peaceful, full of little nooks and hideaways where you can relax and enjoy the ambiance in peace and quiet, and the views looking out over the ocean can not be beat.

The Meditation Gardens at the Self-Realization Fellowship in Encinitas, California are spectacular. . . I was overwhelmed by a sense of peacefulness and tranquility just upon entering the gardens. The views of the ocean from here are spectacular, and there are benches everywhere on which to sit and meditate. But more than anything else, it's the all-pervasive peace that is... More
