Del Mar beach is a wonderful playground for all ages - but if you go at high tide there may not be much beach to sit on. El ninho effect? Son-in-Law was intent on surfing, but had to walk to another beach since he was in danger of hitting the rocks.

Great place for a walk! Now I'm going on to Airbnb to see if we can rent one of the oceanfront houses ;-)

You can walk up the beach a bit to get more seclusion and if you're a shell collector, keep walking to find some great specimens.

We were lucky to be able to swim in the surfs too. However next day the beach was closed after a storm the night before

The beach is wide at low tide, and it is used less than the trendier beaches north in La Jolla. Enjoy walking, swimming, surfing, and dolphin watching.

Drove up to Del Mar and like the vibe of this cute beach town - gorgeous water views with place to stop for a stroll and day at the beach. Beautiful sunsets to make the perfect ending of your day at the beach.

We walked about 2 miles on the beach on a Sunday morning. From Jake's restaurant north to the inlet. I understand the beach also goes south for miles...at least all the way to Torrey Pines. And the walk is best at a lower tide so more of the beach is accessible. The beach was flat and an easy walk and... More

This is nice section of the beach and has a surfing school right at the path down from the street/park.

I love incoming waves on beaches and I love dogs. This is a long and flat beach just off Camino Del Mar and near the mouth of the San Dieguito river. It is located quite close to the racetrack. I loved the wave action and long length of the beach. Behind the beach are a bunch of beach front houses.... More

The beaches in Del Mar are very family friendly and clean. There is usually plenty of parking nearby each street. There is a lifeguard tower on 25th street with a restroom. Del Mar has a great dog beach close to 29th street. From Del Mar beach you can walk north towards Solana Beach or south towards Torrey Pines State beach.... More
