The trip to and from Catalina was a great experience

Catalina Express does a very good job and the trip to and from the island was very enjoyable. We were, however, a bit disappointed with "touristy" Avalon.

Very well run business and you get a free trip on your birthday! Boats virtually always on time and very clean. Don't sit outside up on deck if you don't like wind. Good drinks served by an attentive crew. Get there early for parking and walk to boat.

This is a boat ride to Catalina Island. It's kind of pricey - $76.50 per person round trip. The trip is about 1 hour, 20 minutes each way... But it's the only real option (other than a $300 helicopter ride). Boat was comfortable enough. There was seating indoors and out. I think if the seas are not rough you would... More

Forget this ferry. Just head another 30 min to Catalina Flyer for a high speed, no hassle, no overcharged upgrades and no issues with e-bikes, e-scooters or many of the other prohibited items on the express. Perhaps it is the boat size or other legal reasons but forget the hassle and either try their long beach boats or go with... More

There are not too many options on how to get to Catalina, but I have enjoyed the service with Catalina Express every time I have used it. I travel to the island about every other month and I use their service out of Dana Point. I have used Long Beach as well (bigger boat, very nice as well), but Dana... More

Can't believe we have lived in San Diego our whole lives and never ridden the Catalina Express before. All that time we wasted!!! Dana Point is the closest docking area for us so picked that one. This is a slightly smaller boat and if you are looking to upgrade, this location only has the "captain's" upgrade that is quite pricey.... More

The Catalina Express from Dana Harbor was a relaxing affair. The Dana Point Harbor has restaurants and gift shops to explore while you are waiting for your ferry to disembark to Santa Catalina Island. The Harbor is a cozy, quiet ( while I was there ), beautiful and relaxing place to while away the time. In the distance you can... More

I'm not one to celebrate birthdays after the first fifty, but I have to say, there is no better way to spend a birthday than the free trip to Avalon with Catalina Express. There is something to be said for wearing that ribbon and being greeted and treated by dozens of strangers, as you enjoy the ferry, the island and... More
