Well, we are done with the California State Parks system. It used to be that our utility trailer with the motorcycles on it counted for a legally towed vehicle. -No extra charge. A few years back they changed it to only one motorcycle and the other was charged at 10 dollars per day. Now they only count the utility trailer... More

There are loads of beaches along the coast of Orange County, but this one is one of the best family beaches for those who don't live by the ocean. Also, just north is a lovely Dana Point Harbor ...especially nice for young families with pretty grassy areas and close parking. And, there are shops and eateries, too.

It was fun watching surfers patiently waiting for waves and then catching the waves and riding them into shore.

We have camped at California beach state parks up and down the coast for years and always love it, so we decided to try Doheny for Labor Day Weekend. We were very disappointed for several reasons. To begin with, check-in at the ranger station was different from any we have ever experienced. When you arrive, the rangers have you drive... More

A great place to plunk down your blanket and beach chair and become hypnotized by the sounds of the shore. When you've had enough of that, dig into your favorite book!

Place was very easy to get to and parking was a freeze. These two things are very important in California beaches. Doheny has enough parking, that's always a plus in my book. There is enough green area for setting up, place also has area for BBQ. There is a rental place for bikes and other beach equipment. Lots of volleyball... More

WE usually love Doheny Beach, and I'm not sure if it was just the time of year, but the beach and water were dirty. A lot of stinky seaweed and trash all over. The beach isn't usually like that and we normally enjoy it very much.

The beach is covered with rocks. I prefer to go to the state beach just to the north of Doheny or San Clemente just south of Capistrano Beach and Doheny.

Love this rocky ol' beach. It is great for excersising as it connects right through Capistrano beach right down to San Clemente beach if you're feeling fit enough, and wear your water shoes to protect your feet. On the beach area itself, you will see everything from bird congregations near where the creek winds into the ocean; to fire pits... More
