We visited Doheny State Beach several times while staying in the area--once while riding bicycles along the coast and several times to watch the sun set. There is ample parking and picnic tables and fire pits up and down the beach. Since we visited in winter, the beach was not crowded. The main drawback is the beach's proximity to the... More

The beach has great facilities, but the beach itself I called it crappy. To be fair, am a beach snob because I grew up in a pristine not commercialized beaches in Borneo. What I don't like about the sand is, it has tons of sharp small rock. Go for the right time and catch the waves to surf.

We were at a group function in January and the day use area was almost empty except for our group. The beach area had a little activity but was pretty deserted also. It is a state beach so the facilities are nice for a beach park but the all day use fee is $15.00 so a little pricey just to... More

No dogs are allowed on the sand at Dana Point beaches (at any time). But Doheny Beach has a huge park with picnic tables for day use where pets are allowed. Part of this beach is next to the campground, so it's not exactly 100% accessible.

The beach stretches for miles and one can walk to the harbor and visit a number of restaurants or establishments. There is a campground nearby, a nice, deep beach.

My family of 5 was here on a weekend in May 2012. We were surprised how empty the beach was compared to other SoCal beaches. So when we were able to stay at Capistrano Surfside Inn resort for a week during the week before Christmas, we were excited to return. Parking is plentiful, even though we just walked across the... It doesn't get better than this. The parking lot is next to the beach. Many just park their camper next to the tables and set up. No overnight parking but next door are the overnight camping sites. Sunsets are beautiful. We stayed in the resort just across the street and walked over. It is pay to park but there is... More

Fun for tanning, boatwatching and tidepooling. Not the greatest beach for swimming, but that's not the only thing to do at beaches :D

Nice beach with some smaller surf near the harbour.... Sand is erroded so there are plenty of rocks around. The neighboring park and walkways are great for a run/walk.

We stopped to visit for a few hours but we'll remember this place the next time we want to bring a camper to stay overnight. Parking was $2.00/hour and more than half empty (it was also a Monday). There were lots of birds and seashells, plus we found a message in a bottle from a nine year old boy that... More
