Great time. Nice family beach. Not crowded. Easy to walk to from hotel. Also can ride bikes on frontage road near beach.
This beach is by far our favorite. All of my children learned to surf here. The waves are small enough for novice surfers to learn on, but big enough in the evenings for more experienced surfers. There's a shop there where you can rent bikes for the whole family to ride in which my kids love to do each time... More
Too bad but the sewer smelling outfall of a drainage and a rocky bottom makes this ideal location a no go. Good for beginners to learn to surf as the true local surfers won't be there to chastise them it needs a good cleaning and a water treatment solution. NEVER go here after a rainfall as all the mung of... More
Locals know that there are better beaches up and down this stretch of California waterfront. However, Doheny does offer excellent conditions for first-time surfers as well as facilities including restrooms, picnic tables, volleyball nets, grassy areas for frisbee and so on. Though typically a busy beach there is usually ample places to park yourself on the sand. One note of... More
Doheny State Beach is very long, mostly clean, with picnic facilities. What's a little off putting is its proximity to the Pacific Coast Highway and the busy train tracks. Hard to have an idyllic day at the beach with the hum of cars speeding past on their way to San Clemente and what seemed to be the constant droning from... More
We were driving up and down the California coast and decided to stop here for a couple of minutes. The beach was pristine and it was a perfect place if you wanted to try surfing. The sand was golden and clean. Stay on the northern point of the beach because there are less rocks.
Too many rocks and birds and bird droppings and rocky sand. Too many beautiful beaches up and down the coast to spend much time here.
Great place to learn to surf. The waves roll in a lot like Waikiki. Easy to learn on. The atmosphere here is very laid back and old school. Big, wide open beach with plenty of tables, parking, a campgound nearby, great area to go for a run or a long walk on the beach. No dogs allowed.
This is a nice, quiet beach only minutes away walking from the Marriott Laguna Cliffs resort. The sand was clean, shallow water and the view absolutely stunning. Dana Point harbor with restaurants and parking is right around the corner. Wheelchair friendly path makes it easy for handicapped people.
