My husband and I visited San Diego for the first time this past November. We spent a week in California (started in San Fran, then LA, and finally San Diego). Walking on the ocean side of Silver Strand Beach at sunset was one of the most memorable moments of our whole vacation! It was pretty much just the two of... More

Fantastic way to see the ocean and downtown San Diego. We highly recommend bringing your bike or renting one if you stay on Coronado Island. Safe and easy route along the Strand to ride, then vary your route back through the quaint side streets or along the parks!

Rented bikes and rode along the bike trails. Uncrowded with a great beach to enjoy along with views of the Pacific on one side and San Diego on the other.

Less than 5 miles away from the more-frequented beach at the famous Hotel del Coronado, the Silver Strand Beach offers an equally scenic beach. With only a handful of visitors it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. Parking at the on-site lot with an automated credit- or cash-accepting machine was only $2 per hour with a daily... This is a beautiful sandy beach with miles for walking, watching the ships come and go out of the Naval shipyards. Found quite a few sand dollars and some other small shells. Can't beat the light breeze off the ocean on a warm day.

Worth the drive to stop at Silver Strand, shorter walk from parking to the water's edge than the beach north of the Hotel Del.

We especially enjoyed the 1.5 mile Bay side Nature Trail along the Silver Strand bikeway. Park at the Fiddler's Cove Marina (at the northern end) and you'll see the beginning of the trail.

The beach is nice but the best part is there is a paved path that goes along the road for several miles. It's a great place to go for a walk or a run and there were also a lot of people biking.
