We did the Southfork 2 days and the Middlefork on one last day. The guides are 10 stars!!! They all go above and beyond to keep it safe and keep it fun. They are a family - a community. The campground is lovely with great meals, clean bathrooms and showers. We will go back as soon as possible.

Don't be fooled by other companies that play games with their prices on Groupon. American Whitewater is THE company to use in Coloma. We scheduled our full day trip for 8 people down the South Fork in advance and took advantage of the midweek family special which was a great deal. We planned to camp for 2 nights (one night... I go here on an annual group trip and I love it! The staff here is really nice, they accommodate gluten free which is awesome, and I have rode both north and south fork. Mind you I cant swim and my first trip I was terrified, but our boat guide, tom, was fantastic at making sure everyone felt safe and... More

AWE stands for AWEsome! Last week, took my kids ages 12 and 14 on the South Fork 2 day trip (really 1.5 days, the second day is Chile Bar, which is only 2 hours on the river). We had done a few half day trips before on other rivers. The company makes sure you have realistic expectations, looks after your... More

I travelled to do a rafting experience on my own. I booked at very short notice. As I arrived I was greeted by Arnie who knew my name as he was expecting me (maybe I was easy to identify as a solo traveller) however he was so very friendly, helpful and patient with my questions. It doesn't bother me to... More

Background Disclaimer: Our daughter is a rafting guide with American Whitewater Expeditions (AWE). We believe we are capable of discerning if our reviews are biased. Verdict: Our daughter chose to work with AWE as a rafting guide because they are considered possibly the most competent, safety conscious rafting company on the American River. Being safety conscious (such as requiring that... More

Having never rafted, I wasn't sure what to expect. My husband and I went on the South Fork trip and never came close to any kind of danger. I think we both wished we'd tried the Middle Fork instead because it would have been a bit more thrilling and we would not have been surrounded by kids (we were the... More

My husband, 12 yr old son and I had never white water rafted before and were advised to do the South Fork trip. It was PeRfEcT! We did the full river tour. We arrived at the camp at 8:30 am for sign ups and orientation. The peeps were very friendly and accommodating throughout the entire process (parking was weird) Our... More

We took a large group (41 people) for 2 days of whitewater rafting and kayaking. The guides were well informed, fun and provided outstanding training. The food was really good and plentiful. Water level was low due to drought restrictions and the river was a little crowded but the guides made it fun. We highly recommend this group.
