Old fashioned carnival rides, ice cream truck, funnel cakes and a riverfront park to watch the fireworks. It could have been a little cooler or a little cleaner but the view made up for it. The lake was just getting over an algae bloom so it was more aromatic than usual but it was pleasantly breezy and enjoyable.

I've been to Clearlake once before about two years ago and it was beautiful. On this trip, the beauty is still there, but the lake smells like sewage. Perhaps it's because of the drought or because of the mercury contamination. We had plan to stay in town, but the smell gave us both a headache, so we moved on. It's... More

My father and husband and I traced the childhood places where my mother (now deceased) grew up and spent her younger years and this beautiful place was on the list of places she grew up in, It is very quiet and beautiful.

We have been going to the Clearlake area for years. Used to live in Ukiah, Ca that is 35 minutes from there. Lots of good shopping and eating in Ukiah. Lots of activities at Clear Lake. Boating, Golfing, wine tasting, or just relaxing. Fall and Spring best times to go.

Clear Lake is a different place for sure.! The Ying and the Yang if you will. Having said that, it is a beautiful lake that offers recreation that is almost impossible to find on other lakes. Everyone knows about the bass fishing. Bassmasters rated it the #2 bass fishing lake in the entire USA. We don't fish, but recreate on... More

So, you may have heard that this was the lake that Rachel Carson wrote about in her famous book, "Silent Spring", one of the early books in the environmentalist movement. Back in the 1980's, I interviewed a gentleman who was born around here in the earliest part of the century. We sat in a small house on the edge of... More

Clear Lake has become a murky body of water...people do swim in it but I certainly wouldn't. Boating is popular and I do see some people fish. The real problem with the lake are the communities that surround it. The shoreline is littered with decaying boat piers and docks. Many of the homes (especially in the city of Clearlake) are...
