Over the past few years a number of homeless encampments have developed in the more heavily wooded areas resulting in both safety and sanitation problems.

I was born in Chico and have spent countless hours in Bidwell Park…and I never get tired of it. The 'One Mile' or Sycamore pool is probably the first thing many new visitors will see. It is surrounded by a huge park setting, with a paved bike/walking path that leads to a children's park called Caper Acres. I took my... More

Bidwell Park is divided into 2 sections--lower park has a paved road around the flat and level perimeter, picnic areas, playground, and a unique swimming pool made by damming the creek that flows through the park. HUGE trees provide shade, scenic creek flows through, natural beauty augmented by unobtrusive man-made amenities. Fall is especially beautiful with trees changing colors. Upper... More

As one of the three or four largest municipal parks in the country, Bidwell Park's lower and upper areas are both the lungs for and the rural release valve for lots of the city's residents. If you are in town for meetings or a concert or just dropping the kids off at college, give yourself an hour or two to... More

If some sleazy corporation owned this they would charge a large admission. Picture-book park with rolling lawns and heritage trees, and a mountain stream framed in like a swimming pool with ladders and life guards. The pool is flushed clean once a week. Come see what America looked like when people like the Bidwells were running the show. My, how... More

Some say its the third largest park in the U.S. It has a lot to see and do, a small lake, you can walk up to the creeks and skinny dip or swim; lay on the rocks, etc. Lots of trails for walking or biking, just a beautiful place to be, don't forget to stop in at the Bidwell Mansion... More

If you get anywhere near Chico try to add a visit to Bidwell Park to your itinerary. The park is huge and Big Chico Creek runs through it. The park is perfect for strollers, joggers, runners and cyclists. The One-Mile Dam Recreation Area offers a huge, concrete lined swimming pool that the creek flows through. Picnic areas, and playgrounds abound... More

Very nice park for biking, hiking or swimming. Lifeguards on duty during the summer. Nice place to have a picnic. And I imagine it is beautiful in during the fall months.
