This definitely is a place where a little lady helped shape many good things. Be sure to bring cash or checks as they do not accept credit cards. Lots of history here. You will not believe how tiny she was.

If it wasn't for Mr. Bidwell, Chico wouldn't be what it is today. The tour of the mansion was interesting just too bad they don't have all the original stuff anymore. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and was very informative. He kept repeating over and over about not touching anything. That got a little bit under the skin, but he... More

I'm a history buff, but I think this would be a crowd pleaser for even those who flunked the subject in school. The story of Mr. Bidwell is a major link between why people came to California, how it was built, and the development of this area of the state. He epitomized the real Californian or even Californio. A great... More

Although we are natives & locals we learned so much about early Calif. & the very interesting people who helped settle & define it, The Bidwell's, and the Stanfords, Sutter & who Lassen was. Things you think you would know from living here but a trip through the Mansion and the wealth of knowledge shared by the tour leader filled... More

Really liked the gift shop and information area as well. You get to see almost the whole mansion, including the 3rd floor and kitchen.

We were in Chico mid-week and a tour of the Mansion was on our todo list. I checked the days and hours it was open in the guide in our hotel room. Unhappily, the guide was wrong. Due to State Park budget cuts the mansion in now only open weekends.

Historic house of the Italianate style and pretty well presented inside. As a visitor you are not kept behind silly little ropes and are free to wander the room and look at objects up close. Though the tour guide was relatively new, she had evidently taken time to read beyond the basic guidebook which is always appreciated. Three floors on... More

I took my friend to this tour last December, 2012. Not March 13.But any chance I get to take another tour at the Mansion I make sure out of town or state guests enjoy a tour. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. Just make sure you aren't late for the very beginning of the tour or they will not... More
