This is a must if you are a visitor to Chico. Or even if you live in the area and have never been! You will enjoy going back in time and learning how Chico actually got its name! Fun, doesnt take all day. Close to the downtown area, so lots of places to go for something to eat. Very memorable,... More

Great city museum. (Home of the "founding father and mother") Guided tours by very knowledgeable docents. Interesting and worth a visit.

Along with a newer museum next door, this is where you find the history of Chico. Very well preserved from the days of Annie and John Bidwell, you get the sense of time travel. Worth the visit.

The guide taking us through this very beautiful mansion was so interesting and fun. What an amazing story of the man who built this home and built up the area with his wife.

One of the oldest and most impressive family buildings in the North of the state. Truly a mansion even by today's standards. This was THE home of one of Chico's elites before 1940.

The home of the Bidwells is a beautiful old mansion with cooling system of the day to keep a air flow moving though the home. It's furnish with victorian style throughout the home, even a kerosene power fan (sounds rather oxymoron). It's a fun look at 1900 life style of the rich with clothes they wore too, wool heavy and... Inexpensive way to learn about the founders of Chico and the history of the city. Fun and a great learning exposition.

Besides being beautifully restored and maintained, Bidsell Mansion is an integral part of Chico's history. The tours are not expensive, and the guides really know their stuff. This is a fun way to spend an hour or so if you are in town.

If you want to understand Chico visit the Mansion. The city has an embracing warmth, stimulated by political and environmental awareness, elevated by education. Chico's founder, John Bidwell, an early pioneer, manifested and injected these characteristics. The Mansion was built to please Bidwell's eastern socialite bride, Annie, and also held a Native American village, the site for Chico Normal School... More
