Santa Barbara's mission is the Queen of the Calif missions but Carmel's is not far behind. this is one of Calif's most beautiful missions and one of the best maintained. the sanctuary is spectacular and the grounds are wonderful for strolling. Father Serra is buried inside the church along with some of the most significant of his followers. The Mission... More

The mission and grounds are attractive and the rooms make for a very interesting visual history of the mission. It's a short walk from the Mission Inn and worth a visit.

The prettiest mission. Come for a visit and stay for mass 5:30 Saturday. Pretty gardens. Boring museum.

I have enjoyed walking through the garden and surrounding area. The mission is going through much needed renovations courtesy of generous donors --look forward to seeing the updates and enjoying the mission for years to come.

It is such a beautiful place, with lots of small restaurants and boutique stores. Nice place to spend few hours.

A well-restored California mission. It is the resting place of Sain Junipero Serra, who founded the missions in California.

We visited the Carmel Mission center and Church. It is more meaningful now since Fr Juniper Serra is now St. Juniper Serra an American Saint canonized by the Pope Francis. Though the mission has been restored some of the articles in the museum are original. Interesting visit.

If you're in the area, I'd recommend. I don't think I'd tell someone to make a special trip for this though. While the grounds were beautiful, the museum aspect didn't feel very organized. We'd walk into a display and have no clue what we were looking at, or if the display was labeled, there was not a good description on... More

We sort of stumbled onto this on Christmas Day. Glad I found it. The graves outside the mission are decorated with ablone shells. I'll have to research the history.
