Great place to relax, unwind and detox. We went in the afternoon and there were less than a dozen other guests. Eucalyptus steam room was intense but effective. Great way to spend the afternoon.

This was my 5th visit, twice on my own for massages and three times with friends. I recommend being there after dark to truly appreciate sitting by the fire pits in the night sky. And I would highly recommend both massage therapists that I had: Shirley and Robin were each excellent. My only recommendation is that the massages be 75min... More

Second time here. I do not do cold water or even cool so I do not use it to it's full advantage but for me actually it is totally relaxing. I love the warm and hot pools. Great for joints. The second massage was better then first. Elaina was great. They have eucalyptus, dry and wet saunas! Love the quiet... More

Checked out this place based on a friend's recommendation. Had never been to a hot springs spa & I was also a little intimidated by the fact that this spa was in Carmel. It turned out to be a great experience. The attendant was very helpful in explaining the spa experience (there is a certain process to utilize the pools)... More

AHHH!!! Refuge. We arrived to what looks like a tennis club. Once checked in we were taken around back to the entrance of the massage area where we were given towels, a robe, a lock and pointed to the locker rooms. The word is no talking while at the refuge. I loved that. The locker room was clean but not... More

If you have some time to kill on your trip to Carmel, head over to Carmel Valley's Refuge for a few cycles through their thermal cycle and/or a massage. We had an hour to enjoy the heat up, cool down, relax, and explore cycles three times before our massage. After a LONG bike ride the day before, the thermal cycle... More

Booked an afternoon with massages after a very long trip to Carmel. Surprised to see the negative reviews. We found the facility to be clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful. Masseuse Jamie was great! The locker room is large and convenient. The whole thermal circuit was both interesting and very relaxing. Just what we needed.

My first four trips to Refuge, loved it! The last time was a enormous disappointment and I won't be back. Refuge had a beautiful beginning. It is located in a lovely setting, the cost was $39.00 which included towels, access to all areas and a much needed bathrobe for the those cool ocean breezes. This last visit found us stunned.... Refuge sets itself up in the grand tradition of thermal baths around the world, with treatments including massage, steam, sauna, and baths of various temperatures. While it was a very relaxing and luxurious experience, it didn't quite gel with us as an true thermal experience. My wife would go back, but I'm not so sure. The good stuff: I love... More

The facilities are incredibly clean. We were very fortunate to go on a day that was warm and sunny and hardly anyone was there, so we could enjoy the space to its fullest. We did one full cycle before our one-hour massage. It is addictive. The cool/ cold pools are intense, in a good way. The massage was one of... More
