After a morning hike at Point Lobos, I spent the afternoon soaking in the pools, steaming in the Eucalyptus sauna, and relaxing by the fire pits at Refuge. I lucked out because it was not very busy. Then I got an incredible massage. This place is amazing! I highly recommend Refuge if you need to unwind and recharge.

One of the greatest aspects of Refuge is that it is a Silent Spa - talking not permitted. So one can hear the falling water, chirping birds, and one's own internal thoughts. There are 9 different climate zones and several pools / (in)activities in each zone so the choice of (in)activities is wide (including massages). Do not come hungry or... More

This spa is clean, the staff is professional and the method is fantastic. They enforce spa silence and no electronics. Excellent facilities, location and pools.

Been 3 or 4 times...enjoyed all. Basically you can spend as long as you like but after 2.5 hours or so you get the point and if you're not totally gelled by then you've got other problems. Fortunately, I've been there when it's not too crowded which I'd guess takes away from the experience. The eucalyptus wet sauna is probably... More

Mrs. H. and I were staying Carmel for a few days, so decided to book massages at Refuge for an afternoon. Totally worth it! Make sure you do the pre-massage routine, which consists of taking a steam or Sauna, then a plunge in a cold pool them warm and repeat. Makes your treatment that much more relaxing.

Preferred the sauna room over the steam room. Various hot pools and your choice of Arctic or river cold pool. Various fire pits to relax but it was very chilly so we tended to stay more in the sauna to relax. Towels and water are provided. You have to pay for a robe. And for women, bring you hair dryer... Love this place. So relaxing! The steam room is amazing, plunge pools and hot and warm Jacuzzis. Such a nice place to unwind. Wish I brought a book but everything was great!

A co-worker recommended this place and I'm oh so glad she did. This was just what we needed to end our trip to the jazz festival. It was our 1st visit. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The thermo cycles were fun, chilling and interesting. We really enjoyed the quiet rooms. We will be back for sure. Great way... More
