We have been to many wineries and tastings in Napa and Sonoma. This was our first near Carmel. We appreciate wineries who give nominal fee tastings and refund the cost if wine is purchased. Chateau Julien fits this criteria. We tasted five wines and bought a bottle of one. The setting is lovely, but better still was the woman explaining... More

Lovely setting in the Carmel Valley. Grounds were very nice. Could not rate higher, as we arrived early on labor day. We waited for the opening, and were greeted by a young lady who was very nice, but could offer no help, as she was the only person on the grounds. We asked for a quick tour, but there was... More

3 of us stopped on a quiet Sunday afternoon and were treated to the sole attention of the staff who spent quite a bit of time with us. We did the tasting and the staff person did all she could to explain the history of the place, the wine making philosophy, the setting, and even had us sample a little... More

We had a very negative experience with the people running this winery. We contacted them about a tour one week out, and asked if we would be able to have lunch at the facility, to which the Chateau Julien people responded that they could put something together for us when we got there. After later realizing our schedule would not... More

Dear Colin, I want to apologize for the miscommunication and any aggravation you feel regarding your lunch and tour reservation on 11/26/13. I am so sorry if you feel you were mistreated. We do have a cancellation policy in writing (see below) however it was our error for not making you aware of it from the beginning. Since this situation... More

Unlike many of the tasting rooms in the area, Chateau Julien had fantastic grounds include vines on site. The tasting room was also the nicest in the area, modeled after a French estate. Another bonus is that it happens to be only mid-way up the Carmel valley and thus closer to town than the Carmel Valley Village cluster of tasting... More

This stop was part of my anniversary California vacation and my husband was such a good sport for agreeing to go. My husband is not one for wine in any form or fashion but he did enjoy the time we spent here. I planned our vacation to allow time while in Carmel to visit a local winery. I had recommendations... I am not a wine drinker and we did not have a lot of time. So we opted not to go on a four hour wine tour (which can be very expensive). So glad we picked Chateau Julien to visit. You need to make reservations, however wine tour is free. There is a $10 tasting fee (but if you buy... More

We did the wine tasting, $10 for 5 wines. They poor lightly but was worth the $10 each because we planned on buying a bottle, which they apply towards a purchase. Worth going to, very nice grounds.

Chateau Julien is set within beautiful surroundings. The gardens are lovely and the tasting room is a very grand building in the style of a French chateau. The wines were similar to Italian wines rather than French wines so it felt a little confused. The server was friendly enough but didn't seem that knowledgeable, however we didn't visit quite late... We were there for their Vintage Affair (April 2013) and had a fabulous time. They had reserve wines and other wines for tasting - they had a nice lunch. There was great guacamole, salsa and chips. There was wonderful barbecued cheese quesadilla. and their berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) were some of the best we have ever had. They also had... More
