This is a lovely place to relax. It's not packed, the parking is free (at least where we were), and there are lots of nice restaurants nearby. However, be aware that dogs are never allowed on this beach, even if they are leashed and it is early in the morning.

This beach is great. The sand is nice, the water is warm, and it isn't too crowded. It's only an hour away from Long beach, but a much better location.

Beach was not over-populated on weekday but come Friday afternoon, the flood gates opened and we reluctantly vacated our slice of Heaven on the beach.

You can find free parking on the streets near the beach, but it does get crowded, and you will have to hope for someone pulling out to nab their spot. We were on the north end of the beach. The sand slopes quite a bit here, so the waves crash down on the shore pretty hard, not the best place... More

Carlsbad has beautiful beaches. The water there looks almost navy. I very much enjoyed watching the surfers ride the large waves. The beaches there do have a lot of rather large, smooth rocks, however it was not a problem to walk around them.

Very peaceful and beautiful. The beach was very clean and while there were some people out and about, it didn't feel crowded.

Puzzled by the reviews? Some people complain of rocks and seaweed and others don't. Wonder why? This is a really long 5-mile beach and the conditions vary where you go. We went to 2 spots. Both were great for what we did. South of the power station we took a long walk on the beach, no one there, in groomed... More

Great waves and beach if you subtract the rocks! They are plentiful and hurt! The actual sand is fine granules and fun to play in.
