A lovely gem in Carlsbad

An authentic, beautiful & well preserved piece of local history. Walking the park makes it easy to imagine life on the hacienda decades ago. The short film in the barn is well... read more

Carrillo Ranch was the beloved home of the late Leo Carrillo, a film actor. Built in Spanish Mission style, a visit provides a look at some of his film memorabilia and a walk about the ranch including an old adobe. My favorite part is a chance to hike the adjacent trails, some of which are just across the road from... More

It's a wonderful park, full of Peacocks. Enjoy a walk through this park full of early California ranch life history.

Hidden gem not even most locals know about. Bring a picnic lunch. I have never seen so many peacocks even white ones, and observed in a free range environment. The historic ranch is a nod to a by gone era.

Great place to visit whether you remember Pancho or not. A city park with hiking trails. A piece of how ranches were in early California history. And free to just stroll around. Kids would love the resident peacocks.

On a Saturday in May we saw more than a dozen peacocks showing off their colorful fans to the peahens. What a site, they were everywhere. We even saw the white one with his fan up! In summer the ranch shows some great old-time movies. But whenever you go, take the free guided tour. I didn’t know about Leo Carrillo,... More

I live in Carlsbad and have been involved with many local sites and tourist destinations in our town. BUT, had never been here, with my reli's in town we thought we would take a look. It was beautiful and well kept. As others have said, there is not a lot to do.. But it is a great place to spend... More

There's not a lot to do here, but it's a charming place to visit, and worth visiting at least once for history and film buffs. Peacocks roam the grounds of what was once a working rancho owned by Hollywood actor Leo Carrillo. Special events such as summer showings of his films or Western day may make the place a little... We wandered about twenty minutes before the tour started, looking at displays and whatnot. Leo Carrillo = Pancho from the Cisco Kid. Other stuff too and quite a character. Peacocks all over the place and those boys are loud! Such a lovely slice of the way things were- I could almost see the parties on the patio, and hear the... More
