I live in Carlsbad and have been involved with many local sites and tourist destinations in our town. BUT, had never been here, with my reli's in town we thought we would take a look. It was beautiful and well kept. As others have said, there is not a lot to do.. But it is a great place to spend... More

There's not a lot to do here, but it's a charming place to visit, and worth visiting at least once for history and film buffs. Peacocks roam the grounds of what was once a working rancho owned by Hollywood actor Leo Carrillo. Special events such as summer showings of his films or Western day may make the place a little... We wandered about twenty minutes before the tour started, looking at displays and whatnot. Leo Carrillo = Pancho from the Cisco Kid. Other stuff too and quite a character. Peacocks all over the place and those boys are loud! Such a lovely slice of the way things were- I could almost see the parties on the patio, and hear the... More

Beautifully restored hacienda once owned by Leo Carrillo, aka “Pancho” from the Cisco Kid westerns. Excellent free tours conduced here on Saturdays and Sundays @ 11:00 and 1:00. Plan to spend 2 hours if taking the tour plus additional time to explore on your own and/or take photographs. Tips: 1. Take The Tour: you Can explore the property on your... More

We had planned on spending the day at Carlsbad Village, but found out that there was a Street Fair going on today May 3rd. We had had enough of crowds, so drove over to the "Leo Carillo Ranch State Park", and it was just a perfect afternoon. In the Visitor Center, which used to be the "Hay Barn", you can... More

Park is a mini stop with just a ramble through the historical home. Laden with peacocks colorful but, obviously, screechingly loud. The ranch is well preserved, but rooms were not open the day we visited. Historical film short and interesting. If an event had been in place, it might be more involving.

We stopped here on the way to San Diego to visit a friend. Thanks to traffic and delays, we arrived two minutes before the guided tour. I'm glad we made the 90 minute tour because it took us through most of the buildings which are otherwise locked. While there aren't formal gardens, the tour did pass by numerous areas of... More

Having never heard of Leo Carrillo this was a surprise- to find a ranch that a Hollywood actor had set up to be ecologically correct-astonishing and very interesting to walk through

We learned a lot abut the history of the area, even though we have lived here for 15 years. It is well maintained, and the peacocks are everywhere. We had 4 land on our roof one day.

This was such a beautiful property, with so much rich history of the area, of Leo Carrillo and his background. I had no idea he had such an acting career before becoming Poncho. His family history is something to be proud of. I highly recommend putting this on your list of things to do!
