The most beautiful winery in my opinion. The main house is actually a chateau, with a grand tasting room that offered the best service from the friendliest guy ever. We did two tastings and ended up buying a few bottles of cabernet sauvignon, even though Chateau Montelena is most famous for produce the wine that beat out the French wines... More

I'm slightly miffed. Not a bad word to say about the food although i felt that some of it may have been slightly overcooked, not a problem though, I'm not a critic. I do however feel the staff need to be taught a measure of discretion. I shan't completely repeat what i heard but i will say I heard one... More

Dear Aaron, We are so sorry to hear you had such a negative experience, however, we are a little confused by your review as we don't serve food at our winery - perhaps you were at a restaurant by a similar name? We take customer service very seriously and would greatly appreciate it if you would contact our Hospitality Manager,... More

We're big fans of the Zinfandel Chateau Montelena produces, sadly this year there was a limited production and they were limiting people to 2 bottles per person. This winery has a lot of history behind them, multiple owners who have left their mark, a castle like building and beautiful lake on the property. Definitely a must if you are in... More

A lovely building with much background of who has owned it, including the history of the movie "Bottle Shock". Taken out to the vineyards on a golf cart for an up close look at the vineyard and grounds, which was a very personal touch. Great wines.

Chateau Montelena should not be missed. The building and grounds are beautiful and unique. The young man who helped us with tasting was very nice and knowledgeable. The wine, especially the reserve cab was very good.

I have loved their wines for years and always wanted to visit. We tasted several wines and walked all over the beautiful grounds. We bought several bottles and souvenirs. It was awesome.

If you want to know what good chardonnay is supposed to taste like, visit Chateau Montelena where their wines are closer to what you would find at a vineyard in France. You can smell and taste the delightful perfume of the chardonnay grape (instead of only being able to smell and taste the vanilla/toast you get from many US chardonnays,... More

Lucky us, our friend is a wine club member at Chateau Montelena. So you might not be able to completely duplicate our day - but boy it was perfection! We started off with a very complete tasting (they were pouring us the good stuff). Then we moved onto the bocce court (complimentary reserved for members), and enjoyed several games of... More

The grounds were beautiful, the Chateau impressive, and the wines excellent. Avoid the Estate wines unless your ready to pay the price! You will be compelled since they are worth every penny!

Of course, see A Good Year, Sideways, and Bottle Shock to understand more about wines and the people it brings together. We were treated to a 70's vintage Chateau Montelena by friends, then drank in the passion for wine from the cinema portrayals of Bottle Shock. So stop at the week end buzz tours and elbow in for all the... More
