This is the Bottle Shock winery where they put California wine on the map. Had a great tour of the vineyard and a great tasting afterwards. Had a nice chance encounter with Bo out in the vineyard which was neat. They have a beautiful winery here and the tour was a great way to learn about the history of this... More

The wine here is worth buying after the tasting. The people who work there are nice and know their stuff. The surrounding area is beautiful and worth taking a stroll around. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you have never been before and are in the Calistoga area. There is a lot of history to this place. Check out... More

My family has been enjoying this wine and visiting the vineyard since the early 90's. This wine helped put Napa on the map in a world of wine that was dominated by the Europeans. The atmosphere is great and is surrounded by beautiful hills. You can reserve a picnic area out on the water and enjoy a tasting with food.... More

This is the winery that introduced American Chard to Europe. If you haven't seen the movie Bottle Shock do so before you visit this winery. Anyways, we did the wine tasting then enjoyed the stroll through the grounds at Chateau Montelena. Besides the history of this winery the grounds are phenomenal. Take a stroll out back where beautiful flowers, trees,... More

Went wine tasting here and we weren't disappointed. Served with knowledge and a smile. Considering joining the "Futures" wine club so we can use their beautiful picnic area. Wine was good, bought a bottle and enjoyed it with dinner later that night. The grounds are wonderful and it was worth the wait to get in.

"Get real." "Go authentic." Whatever the tagline, if you're looking for "more" when you visit wine country -- more unbuttoned, more relaxed, more charming -- you want Calistoga. You want Chateau Montelena. If you've never been here on your previous visits to wine country, you've not only missed out on a great winery, you've missed out on a huge piece... More

The grounds are breathtaking! We did not have a reservation and had no problem walking in for a bar tasting. We tried several wines with a 2009 Chardonnay being my favorite. I had no idea how delicious an aged Chardonnay could be! I would have purchased but, to my disappointment, the wine was not for sale. Still, worth a visit.

We came here to learn about the wine that beat out the French wine in 1976 and put Napa on the map. Grounds are beautiful. Lake with ducks and swans. Nice views of distant hills. There are a few steps to climb or a ramp if needed. Wine tasting was inexpensive. Cool vine candelabras on their back tables.

Booked our only tour of wine country here, because of the history and reputation. Joel was our tour guide, and he was great. During the tour, you stop and get another pour, while he talks about the vast history of the place, including the 1976 French tasting. The grounds of the winery were very beautiful - you will get some... More
