Historic vineyard in Calistoga. We have visited this place many times and are wine club members. The tasting room can be crowded and the people who work here are variable, so the best "tip" I have is mill around the place, there is plenty to look at with the Bottle Shock movie and Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 (also known... Recently watched the movie, Bottle Shock so we had to go to Chateau Montelena. Beautiful grounds and winery. Wine was very good and took home some Chardonnay too! Great visit!

Went to Calistoga / Napa area for my 70th bday. Chateau Montelena was the first winery we went to. It was very old and beautiful. Enjoyed walking around the winery. We were very disappointed while wine tasting. The male person who gave us the tiny wine samples must of got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning,... More

We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your recent visit to Chateau Montelena. In regards to wine pours being too small during your tasting, we are regulated by the ABC so unfortunately we aren’t able to increase the amount. We do appreciate you visiting, and hope you visit again to provide you with a more memorable experience. More

I chose to visit this winery on a recent trip to Napa Valley because, like alot of other reviews mentioned, the wine competition in 1976. I was not disappointed. Besides having a beautiful, historic building, the wines were all excellent. They also deduct the $20 tasting fee from any purchases that you end up making. Enjoy!

Did the Paris/Hollywood tasting tour. Not a long tour. Private room with select tasting. Videos of Bo Barrett and the author of the Paris tasting (forgot his name). Great fun! The tour guide was very informative and clearly loved his job. Gave us extra tastings. Very fun and awesome. Toured the grounds and saw Bo Barrett himself! A great bonus!... More

The bottle that shocked the world, does have the backbone. Loved the winery and people. Check with the winery if they'd allow picnic -they have an awesome garden!! Fantastic Cab and Petite Sirah. It is just a cut above the rest. Charges for Tasting is - 20 bucks- But I find it worth it.

People come because of the Bottle Shock movie, but they stay for the delish wines and the supercool pouring humans.

Another wine tasting.....make sure you don't do more than 4 per day....or they all become 'average'. We enjoyed this place...the wine was not to our taste, but I know, by others, it IS exceptional....there are Scotch drinkers, and there are Bourbon drinkers...right? The place, and the staff was exceptional...and worth the visit...plus there is history. Enjoy...

One of my favourites. We walked in late for the tour (by design - my husband was wine toured out!), but we had a lovely tasting. When we joined the club, they a) didn't charge us for the tasting and b) showed us some of the other beautiful rooms and views at the winery. I think I would have liked... More

This was my first Napa Valley tasting and I was shocked at the cost of a wine tasting. They charged $20 per person plus tax to taste 4 wines. They filled the glass with less than an ounce of wine. They did let my husband and I "share" a tasting so it only cost $20 + but we had to... More
