Wine tasting was great. The staff was very knowledgeable and didn’t make this novice wine taster feel uncomfortable at all. Very patient with my questions and made my first tasting experience really fun. The grounds are beautiful.

This was my first visit to Calistoga and to the winery. I had heard of the winery from the movie Bottle Shock, but going to the real thing was well worth the visit! Sebastian was our tasting expert and was very knowledgable about the history of the winery, even before 1976! Well worth the visit if you are an avid... More

I remember the Chateau Montelena of the 1970s, when the wines were the best part. Not so on our recent visit. The fantastic old building is worth the trip, but skip the tour, which was conducted by a guy who obviously knew a lot about winemaking, but was very bad at explaining it. And the wines are not good. I... More

This vineyard is very quaint as you walk up to the door with the water fountains out front. You walk into what seems like a dark oak barrel. The walls are all like this and the kind old man giving the tasting inquires where you are from, your taste in wines, how you heard of them. Even though I wasn't... More

As many have said… we went after seeing the movie. However, the movie doesn't do justice to the property - which is just beautiful. The wines were nice as well - and we did bring a few bottles home. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

It was so great being at Chateau Montelena. We had a wonderful tasting (had an appointment) and we just loved being in such a historic winery. A must do.

After reading about Chateau Montelena's role in the storey behind the film Bottle Shock I thought I would visit the winery. The grounds of the winery are stunning and worth the visit even if you did not taste the wine. I tried a red but preferred the whites, in particular the Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanche. The tasting room is a... More

One of our group of 6 is a club member and we booked one of the pagodas on the lake for her birthday lunch. They had the picnic table set and a bottle of wine chilling for us. We spent 2 1/2 glorious hours there lounging and eating our picnic lunch. If you are a painter, set up your watercolors... More

We had an hour to kill before our spa appointment so we stopped in for a wine tasting. The service was good but the wine was not impressive. We tried a glass of a $150 bottle of wine and were confused because it wasn't good. The grounds are pretty. They have a bocce court but it's only for their wine... More

I have wanted to go to CM since seeing the movie Bottle Shock. I know the history (and the altered history in the movie), but since it was filmed here, I really wanted to see it and taste the wines. The chardonnay and cab were very good. Wasn't as impressed by the other wines. Lady in tasting room was very... More
