We were greeted by Amy, who gave us a tour of the chateau and the wine making facilites. Amy obviously loved her job and her passion for Chateau Montelena wines was evident in her presentation of the different wines and vintages. She also provided us with some suggestions on other wineries in the area, and we appreciated the opportunity to... More

Wine people know this, and it seems like they're still hanging on to what happened in the 70's. The wines are very good, but their Chardonnay was lacking somehow, maybe that the build-up led ot a let down in an actual tasting. Their reds were much better and the castle is very cool. The lake is great but would have... More

Where it all came together. The movie Bottle Shock tells the story with lots of cinematic license (With a cameo from Jim Barrett) but George Tabor's "The Judgemant of Paris" book is better. Even if you don't see the movie or read the book, go see Chateau Montelena. It is a beautiful stone chateau on spectacular grounds, including Jade Lake.... More

We did like the place and the experience (ended up buying several bottles of 2009 Petite Sirah and enjoying them thoroughly). Tasting menu consisted of 2 whites and 3 reds. Do not expect a big walk - just a stroll around the lake. Turns out they allow to reserve spaces for picnics which shortens the stroll even more. The good... More

The winery that put California wines on the map. Their wines were spectacular. A must visit winery for history and superb wines.

The wines are OK, so many great ones out there. Yet this is the shrine of wineries in Napa/Sonoma. They put California wines on the map during the great Tasting of Paris in 1976. The movie Bottleshock loosely portrays the events and highlights Chateau Montelena. Beautiful spot and we had a great private wine tasting for 8. Very nice staff,... More

Having seen the movie, I knew if I could only pick a few wineries in Napa Valley, this had to be one. I got there first thing, and started tasting at 10. The grounds are beautiful, and the Chateau classy. I loved the history and the staff was so friendly and knowledgable. Not pretentious whatsoever, I very much enjoyed my... More

great atmosphere, great story, and good wines. The grounds and house are terrific. Good wine variety without trying to be all things to all people. Very polite and knowledgable staff. A must see on you wine stops through the valley.

We were greeted by the friendly and courteous staff. They showed us around the historic and beautiful grounds, which were interesting to wander through. The wine tasting was at market price but featured some library releases as a nice bonus and the wine was high quality.

What a beautiful winery. The grounds were nice, and the building spectacular. The wines we tasted were very nice. We were in a group of 24 folks and had a special tasting and lunch. I would recommend special events here.
