My sister and I arrived early in the day with no appointment to be greeted by the staff of Chateau Montelena. We were welcomed at the door with smiles, and all of the employee's in the tasting room were friendly and personable. This was the first vineyard of our 4 day stay in the region, and will be one of... More

Ok I will first say, I did see the Movie "Bottle Shock" and that was my reason for going. However, once I got there it was gorgeous. Its about a hr away from Napa but its worth the ride. We tried the Chardonnay and it was delish. We visited nine wineries in Napa Valley and Sonoma County and this was... More

We just visited this beutiful vineyard and took the tour in the golf car. The property is beutiful with stunning views, great history but the wine is just that.... history. We tasted their premium wines including their famous Chardonay, nothing special really. The wines are over priced and you can taste much better reds and whites for alnost half the... More

The history of this winery is what brought us here. We'd seen the movie "Bottle Shock" and were interested to see where California wines first made an impact on the market. The winery is GORGEOUS! The servers were patient and kind and loved to explain the history. We fell in love with the place and have since been back two... More

We stopped here as a group for a wine tasting. The location is very beautiful and we were even able to see them processing grapes to be crushed. Plenty of picture opportunities!! The wine tasting was nice and the wines better than most. However, much of the talk was around the movie that was filmed based on the award one... More

For wine lovers, this is the "mothership" of wineries. This is at the top of Calistoga, and a long drive from Napa. We have been to between 50 and 80 wineries in the last few years. This place is beautiful and you feel the history just walking through the doors. Tastings are pricey at $25 pp. but the wine is... More

If you want experience Quality, Montelena is the place. 1st let's clear something out, the movie bottle Shock was not filmed at Montelena (Only the view of the Chateau). The real location is Kunde estate in Sonoma and Buena Vista winery. Still when i saw the place i had a kick. I tasted their Chardonnay in the past also their... More

...far too commercial....the purpose of the staff is to make you become a member due a massive insistance on it! They are missing the great opportunity to teach you more about wine and share experiences with you...!!! dont you even dare to mention other wine experiences you had, you might feel yourself as if you were doing something bad! The... More

We arrived at 11am and the tasting room was packed! Suggest everyone to go as early as possible. Tasting costs 25usd/pax and you get to try 5 different wines. I like their signature Chardonnay the most. Overall, the wine is pricey but it definitely tastes different from a run of the mill wine! Service was prompt and polite. We were... More

Chateau Montelena is a beautiful setting with gorgeous grounds, but very far up from Napa town itself, so depending on where you are coming from it may not be worth the drive. While the grounds are gorgeous I found the tasting room itself a little dark and dingy - maybe because it was summer and a beautiful day outside, so... More
