While in Calistoga we were directed to this museum by the visitor's center and were not disappointed. The town of Calistoga has a very interesting history. The museum itself has lots of old items and toys from long ago and the models of the town are amazing. It did not take a long time to see it, but it was... More

The museum gives a very comprehensive history of the early exploration and settling of California. Lots of artifacts. Small enough to do in about 1 hour or less if you want to get back to wine tasting and spa visiting.

This is a private museum and has interesting dioramas of the history of Calistoga. It's well worth a visit - anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Highly recommended.

You have to like and be interested in history. It was interesting but it wasn't something that my husband or I felt like we could have not missed. Glad it was inexpensive but I don't think it is for everyone.

We live in a town that's 10X larger than Calistoga and our museum is a poop in comparison. This as nice as a musem as I've seen (outside of Washington D.C.) and it's free!!!

If you have never been to Calistoga, you are in for a treat and some surprises. The town's name was "invented" by a drunken, rebellious and lapsed Mormon, erstwhile developer, who sought to make a fortune by hyping the place, for starters. It gets better and this museum is a good place to learn some of the history of the... More

We were given a big welcome by the curator of this museum who explained it's history before leaving us to browse. If you are in this town and have a couple of hours to spare it's a great way to get an understanding of the local history. Good for kids too.

I love visiting this jewel of a museum and bringing friends and visitors to the area. Lots of Gold Rush/ Sam Brannan memorabilia,( how Calistoga came to be) as well as the Robert Louis Stevenson connection. Then there is the natural hot springs aspect. Add to that the memorial to Mr. Sharpsteen himself, who worked for Disney as a cartoonist--Oscar... More

Deann was the center Guide on duty and she explained the history of the museum and attached home very well and in detail. We enjoyed conversing with her, and will return, next time to spend more time reading all about the area and wineries and how they came to be
