A great old traditional links course - a Classic which you must play. When we visited in mid May the greens weren't in so good condition after a tough Winter so it might be good to call ahead (the greens on The Machrie on Islay were in great condition the day after)

What a hidden gem. We got to play this great unknown course twice. It was windy and cold one day and less windy the next. We had the captain of the club as our caddie both days. Without him we could not have played the course. The scenery is spectacular and the course sublime. There are a lot of blind... More

The Machrihanish Golf Course is a must play on any links lover's list. Out and back at its finest on the Kintyre Peninsula. The opening hole ("Battery") is one of the finest opening holes world-wide in links golf, measuring 427 yards and challenging any big hitter to bite off more of the beach. The remainder rolls northward through the dues... More

Whilst there are a lot of blind holes so on your first visit you are Hitting and Hoping, especially in the Mist which often rolls in as per Paul McCartney song. Right now the condition could be better after a poor winter according to locals, there is a lot of GUR, and to be fair they reduced the green fees... More

I played three courses in the area and Machrihanish Dunes was by far the best. Words (at least mine) can't describe how beautiful the course is. I must have taken 100 photos. Every hole looked so natural and it made you feel like you were playing 150 years ago with Old Tom Morris. I played 3 rounds at the course... More

I am writing this somewhat after the fact but that in no way clouds my memory of what a great, fun course Machrihanish is. We played a number of courses in Scotland and Machrihanish was far and away the best bargain and the equal of any of the others for links type golf. Don't pass up the chance to play... More

Have played over 40 courses in Scotland and this ranks with the best. Well worth the trip to the Peninsula, and easy to combine with outings at other nearby courses.

This is a challenging and fair golf course with one of the most memorable first holes. We played a two tournament rounds here and all agreed it was an excellent test of skill. There were perhaps too many blind shots for the first round, but once we had the hang of it, we much preferred it to Macrihanish Dunes -... More
