Sonoma County wants to fund its budget on travelers trying to enjoy the beaches. There is a $7 parking fee for this beach, which is sandy and clean, but has no waves to speak of and is too cold for swimming. It's also part of a large campground with large RVs nearby. Drive to Bodega Head for the view--it's free... More

Plenty of space on this beach for swimmers, sun lovers and sandcastle makers! Don't forget to take your sunshade as there's no cover. Parking in peak times could be difficult and it's a bit of a walk to public facilities.

This is just a fantastic beach, kid friendly, dog friendly (on leash). On one side there is fantastic birding, spotting scopes are almost always set up. The other side is Doran Beach, 2 miles long. On one trip I got o the western end and started seeing very odd blue things about the size of an eraser. They seemed to... More

What a great place to go with family. The beach is wonderful and there is camping available. Can't wait to go again.

The beach was sixty degrees and too windy to enjoy in late June. The waves were so tiny, if it weren't for the seagulls, I would have thought we were visiting a large lake and not the ocean. (Although the Chicago side of lake Michigan has larger waves and seagulls) Great if you have toddlers and building sand castles, but... More

Unlike the rest of the coastline, Doran beach is a safe calm beach for children, swimming (brrrr!) and surf fishing

Unspoiled stretch of clean, smooth sand next to dunes. Rock formations at each end. Sounds of seals or sea lions, though we could not see them! Birdwalks very near by.

Worth a short visit either to admire the scenery, spot birds or take a walk along the beach. Many people camp or take RVs, but it was a pleasant place of solitude when we came in late April.

I am shocked, literally, that not only is Doran Beach listed as a top attraction in area, but also that so many vastly superior beaches have no entries at all. Shell Beach is my favorite, hands down, with amazingly beautiful rock formations, tidal pools, a creek, an intimate beach, and shells (of course). Twenty-five years of visiting these beaches hundreds... More

Doran beach is a wonderful walk from Bodega Bay Lodge, where we were staying. Bird-watching, harbor seals, sandy beach and the ocean. Beaches North of Bodega Bay, such as Salmon Creek, School House, Portuguese beaches are accessed via walkways or paths down cliffs, without ropes or railings....not for cowardly older folks, like us. However, the beach at Goat Rock, where... More
