Good places to eat, interesting shops, did I mention the food at Bette's Ocean View and the coffee at Peet's and oysters at Cafe Rouge? Or the fine Japanese silks and gifts, to the travel items, and the high quality gardening supplies, furniture, leather goods, kitchen ware, wine shop...anyway they can be found on 4th Street with fairly easy parking... Crate & Barrell Outlet, CB2 and a couple upscale boutiques and restaurants. North Face and Royal Robbins outlets less than a mile away. It's different than the funky Berkeley closer to Telegraph, but there's plenty of funky stores and restaurants closer to campus if that's what you want and I mean funky in a good kind of way.

Highlights we enjoyed were Bette's Diner (and its bakery right next door) and a fresh Mexican food place called Tacubaya.

Once you get the parking puzzle solved, it is a great place to visit. The restaurants are good, the shops interesting. There is public parking available--you just need patience and knowledge where to find it.

Great place to eat and shop. Restaurants are definitely for foodies. Lots of nice boutiques. Definitely a place to gather with friends and family and people watch!

Came to eat dinner on Fourth Street. Found the area pleasantly quiet and easy to navigate. So much nicer then Downtown Berkeley! Fun shops and cafes!

Lots of shops - REI outlet, home decor, art galleries interspersed with a variety of cuisine. Makes for a fun shopping trip when you want something more unique than the local mall.

this is a fun place to visit and grab a bite to eat. Several Great restaurants. Parking is getting to be more and more of a problem.

Fourth Street is a place to take in slowly and enjoy. I like to peruse Sur La Table, the Italian deli, and the book store. I appreciate the lay out of the book store with anecdotal notes on some of the more popular novels. Crate and Barrel usually has sale items, as does Papyrus. I enjoy a cup of Peet's... More

We had a lovely breakfast at Bette's Diner and then stopped in the many shops along the street. A really pleasant way to while away a sunny morning.
