We enjoyed a lovely afternoon stroll down Fourth street. It is too bad that nearly every store is a chain, but the vibrant atmosphere makes up for it.

Picture a sunny, leafy street lined with a slightly upscale feel, with a wide-range of fun shops and people relaxing in outdoor patios over coffee or a good meal. The shops sell everything from furniture to lighting to books, clothing and cosmetics. There's excellent food to be had. And a Crate and Barrel outlet to boot. There is parking in... More

My husband and I like to wake up early and go to breakfast at Bette's Oceanview Diner. There is usually a wait, but bring the newspaper, buy a cup of coffee at their takeout next door to tide you over while you wait, and enjoy a leisurely morning. After breakfast, shop the street. It's not a long street, but a... More

This is an upscale restaurant/shopping area in west Berkeley. A little pricey, but good quality stuff and places for foodies (Bette's Ocean View, Peet's, Cafe Rouge (for meat lover's), and Tacubaya. Also a cheese/pasta shop where you can get a baguette and hunk of cheese for a quick and cheap(er) lunch/snack. Children's toy store, Restoration Hardware, even an Apple computer... More

This is one of the nicest areas in Berkeley to shop and have lunch or dinner. A place for a girls day out!

Fourth st used to be a grungy industrial street but over the last 15 years it has morphed into a destination. Great restaurants and interesting shops. Parking can be difficult unless you know those secret places to park. No. I am not telling you. I want to be able to park.

Unique shops (like A Thousand Cranes and Miki's Paper and Teance) plus lots of coffee, wine, food (sit down or take out) AND a bookstore and travel store and organic cotton goods. Nice buildings, built to human scale. A good stroll.

Shopping 4th street is a unique experience. The area is filled with wonderful specialty shops , great restaurants, good coffee and special tea. A wonderful adventure for everyone in the family. Enjoy toy stores, paper stores, lighting stores, glass stores, clothing, shoes, makeup, lingerie, and then there is food, food, food. Enjoy the moment.

This tree lined street is lovely for shopping, walking, and dining. You can't go wrong. I particularly like the Japanese paper store, Miki's, and the Japanese fabric shop next door. Other favorite spots along the street include the Stain Glass Garden, Tacubaya, Bette's, and Zut.

I am a huge paper fan and I could not get over all of the gorgeous paper available in the shoppes along Fourth Street! We ate at Betty's Diner (AWESOME!) but my favorite spot of the day was "Castle in the Air." What a wonderful spot to stroll and explore!
