This area is like the "Mill Valley" of Berkeley. Eclectic local designer shops, only a few chain stores, outdoor cafes and music,a bit of yoga, ice cream and coffee roasted in front of you. Betty's Oceanside Diner - great breakfast - and her "to go" shop next door has ridiculously good pizza by the slice. My friend Devi's shop, Outback... More

I wanted to go the a couple of the shops on 4th street in Berkeley. The Molly's there is not especially a good spot (the other Molly's in Berkeley is) but there are garden shops, table top shops, cafes, restaurants, boutiques clothing shops, furniture stores - just about anything you could want. I really like to visit 4th St.

Very pleasant place to spend a day. Lots of interesting shopping, a Peets to relax at. Interesting restaurants of various kinds. Great kitchenware store. Come early to find parking, or train and walk to Fourth St. Amazing bookstore.

On of the most innovative adaptive re-use of a run down industrial area-30 plus years ago- into a high end retail shopping and dining district, done in a style that maintains local neighborhood character.

if you have time, go to 4th street and enjoy some great dining and fun boutique shops. Castle in the Air and Thousand Cranes were two of my favorites and a great little Japanese paper store next door. Stores close at 6:00 pm.

I found the pasta shop..which had gourmet food items. Had lunch in the deli which was healthy and delicious. The bakery was very good too. Bought a slice of princess cake for my daughter she loved it!

A great area to window-shop and if you find the unique things that are there a great place to buy your stuff. The Apple store is a highlight, service is great. Parking available free in the crowded back-lots or there is great pay lot across from Spenger's/

Great place to walk around, with a few good lunch options, e.g., the new Japanese restaurant right next to Zut is really good (a bit pricey), and Zut is a standard. Some interesting stores in the area, e.g., Apple store, Artis coffee, some furniture stores, some good shoe stores, Pete's coffee, etc. Used to have a bookstore, but that moved... More

This is NOT the real Berkeley. There are a few places to enjoy such as Bette's which is not only real Berkeley, but also real 50's. Now that Book's Inc. has split you might as well head for Walnut Creek and get the super sized version.

4th St is a charming little shopping area that has great little independent shops, restaurants, and furniture outlets. Fav must visits: Restaurant - Iyasare (fancy) Tacubaya and Bette's (casual) Shoe Store: Rabat (all time best for unique imports at varying price points) Kids Activity: East Bay Vivarium Household: Crate and Barrel Outlet
