This place is so lovely and family friendly. The kids love going and it is a pleasure to go. We live 90min away, but find it is worth coming to. Staff members are great. The park down the road from the zoo is very nice as well.

we go to a lot of zoos. This one was a bit of a challenge. The parking lot was undergoing some paving, making entry a bit strange. The beginning exhibits we difficult to navigate, and some of the animals seemed AWOL. That said, CALM does it education roll, with local animals that are otherwise unable to make it in the... More

Spent 2+ leisurely hours @ the CALM zoo. The animal habitats, landscaping, signage, & facilities all seemed well tended. The animals appeared well cared for particularly since they are all rescues. The staff were super nice. The 22 min drive from the hotel in Bakersfield wound thru' some astounding terrain - at least to my East Coast eyes - with... More

Was looking forward to this trip but was sorely disappointed. Animals and birds looked bored and indifferent, their cages although clean looked too small. The snake house was interesting. Birds in the bird area looked dirty and uncared for. I would have liked to see notices on each exhibit telling us where the animal or bird came from and its... More

The California Living Museum is a great place to see and learn about local flora and fauna. When I taught the lower grades, I always took my class there to see the animals native to California. It has great picnic areas and is very interesting. It also has a snack bar.

We always enjoy coming out to CALM for the Christmas light show! Wow! What a great spectacle. It is the start to our Christmas season, for sure. It is a wonderful place to bring our children and grandchildren, Always a special time viewing the animals in their habitat.

Great place to take the family/kids and just walk around looking and learning about the habitat here. This is a non-profit rescue facility for wild life and they do an excellent job. Their Christmas time lights are FANTASTIC! Must see...........

This local "zoo" only houses animals that are native to our area that can no longer live in the wild for a number of different reasons. This is an affordable easy day trip where you can picnic and enjoy some cool animals. There is a little gift shop with a few snacks, but there are also picnic tables perfect for... More
