Not a lot to to see - 2 bears were the highlight. I'm sure the folks that thought up the acronym CALM were well-intentioned in the way that only those who find zoos offensive can be. Sorry, kids, it's still a zoo. Yup, animals in cages and enclosures is a zoo no matter what la-dee-da "aren't we so enlightened" name... More

CALM is a well-intentioned effort to provide a zoo for a city that really cannot afford one. The facility and staff are nice enough, but the zoo is very small. Although it's as scenically located as anything in Bakersfield, the location is not convenient. Kids (or adults) who have not seen animals such as those housed at CALM should go,... More

I had never been to CALM as many times as I have visited Bakersfield but let me say I was impressed. Yes it is a small location and it is not a full Zoo but it gives off a since of "CALM" to the visitors. They take very good care of their animals and there was even an area where... More

Although it is a little bit of a drive out of town, it was so much it! Welcome staff was friendly. The size of the zoo is just right. Great up close encounters with the animals. Great variety of Californian animals. Not too crowded on the day we went, almost seemed like we had the place to ourselves. Been to... More

It was a very nice, quite peaceful little park showing you all the wildlife from the area. I really enjoyed my visit, the enclosures are very natural for the animals and the place is just so peaceful. The staff are also nice if you need help getting around the area. I definitely recommend it.

The Christmas lights are so enchanting, you will for sure leave with the magic of Christmas in your heart! As an animal lover, it gives me that " feel good" feeling, to know that orphaned and injured animals have such a great place to live for the rest of their lives. Please go visit an support this wonderful facility!

This place is already interesting but during the holiday season, it turns magical. Very fair admission price, riding the train and carousel is included. Everywhere you look and walk it is so beautiful. This is not a cheesy cheap set up. It rivals Disneyland... Except for the lights on It's a Small World. Adults and children are truly having a... Wonderful place that is immaculate. Animals are up close to enjoy with beautiful grounds for a casual stroll, or picnic. Your visit would be helping an amazing organization that cares for all kinds of injured wildlife in the area as well as ongoing education for children. In December they have a holday light extravaganza that is just magical!

Just a few miles from the lake Ming is bakersfield's best kept secret! This is a nice small rehab facility for injured animals. Admission was $9 a person and well worth it! We have tickets for CALM Christmas light but decided to go to the zoo part early! Loved it! Now I learned I get recently ticks when I turn... More
